COPS: HE PROWLED WHILE MOST SLEPT

Red Bank Police have linked a man they arrested last week with five early-morning burglaries on the East Side.

Mauro Vasquez-Galvan, 26, of East Front Street, is being held in the Monmouth County Jail on $135,000 bail following his arrest Friday, June 15 at 4:50a for defiant trespass.

He was discovered in the rear yard of a residence on Linden Place, according to a statement issued by Lt. Stephen McCarthy. The arrest was part of an increased patrol and surveillance operation of the area initiated in response to a number of residential nighttime burglaries in the area, McCarthy said. Ptl. Robert Kennedy and Ptl. Steven Adams made the arrest.

Subsequent investigation by Sgt. Eliot Ramos led to Vasquez-Galvan being charged with the following incidents:

• May 23 burglary and theft of jewelry, camera equipment and personal items from a residence on Washington St.

• May 24 burglary and theft of personal items of a Mechanic St residence, in which the homeowner was awakened as the suspect was rummaging through her jewelry box in her bedroom. The suspect fled upon being discovered.

• May 30 attempted burglary of a Spring St. residence, in which the resident surprised a subject as he was attempting to enter her home through a first-floor window. The suspect fled the area upon being discovered.

• June 10 attempted burglary of a Mechanic St. residence, in which the homeowner was awakened by a noise outside her home and discovered the suspect attempting to climb through a window to the house. The suspect fled upon being discovered.

• June 13 burglary of a Linden Place residence, in which the resident woke up to discover the suspect inside her home. The suspect then fled.

All of the above incidents occurred between the hours of 3a and 5:30a, McCarthy said, and in each case entry entry was through either unlocked doors or partially opened first-floor windows.

Bail was set by Municipal Court Judge William Himelman.

  • Can't be. According to the mainstream media, illegals… sorry.. undocumented immigrants are high and noble people who only bring good to society.

  • Sorry…meant "must be (a us citizen)"

  • The article says he is a resident of East Front Street. If the guy is illegal and renting on E. Front Street, maybe it's time the town begins to crack down on owners who rent to more than the allowed number of occupants. Aren't owners of these houses enabling crimes like this to occur. In addition to the "eye sores" that exist throughout this historic and very beautiful town because owners do not take care of homes. These houses especially on the West side look like they're about to fall down. I'm all for immigration however allowing home owners to permit more than allowed number of occupants in delapidated homes will only attract transients and not hard working people and families.

  • This is obviously not related to this guy, but someone stole one of my hydrangea plants last night. I'm really upset that some %@*hole would do this. My street gets packed with cars for Count Basie shows and last night was Wilco, attracting a younger crowd. Maybe it was one of them. I don't know. I never had a plant stolen before and I was just wondering if this is common.

  • Linda, my street also serves as parking for the Basie. I've been here about 6 years and mostly the Basie crowd leaves the occasional pre-show drink bottles and other food related litter. It's unusal for our house/yard to have any vandalism after a show there.

I live near the train station with lots of foot traffic near my house. Passing people do like to help themselves to my flowers on occasion. Putting up a small fence has helped, but our rose bushes are still irresistable it would seem.

I'm very sorry to hear about your hydrangea.

  • Wasn't the Washington Street break in reported to have happened during the daytime hours? Either way, it might be time for Hip City to wake up and clean up it's issues related to greedy slumlords whose abuse of basic laws (that appear to go unenforced) and intense greed invite the overcrowding and questionable status of "residents" in our now seemingly transient friendly town…hmmn, citizen or not, will this person's crime spree lead to more housing safety issues for Red Bank down the road??How will this effect the value of real estate for the actual owner ocuppied and rental dwellings in this community?

  • Jen, I also pick up the left over trash from Count Basie goers and other people that walk by. Although I would prefer not to have trash in my yard, I kind of expected it when we bought the house. We've been here 7 years and fortunately we never had any problems. I know it sounds silly to some, but this plant stealing incident really got to me! They just ripped it out of my lawn, roots and all. I think I'll try the fence idea.

    Thanks for caring!
