COPS NAB ARMED ROBBERY SUSPECT

One of two suspects in a July armed robbery of a Shrewsbury Avenue jewelry store is in custody following his arrest earlier this week, Red Bank police report.

In a separate matter, police are looking for three men believed to have done a smash-and-grab robbery of a sportswear store in the early hours of Labor Day.

Carlos Delevry, 20, of Munson Place, was arrested by Sgt. Eliot Ramos and Inv. Errico Vescio shortly before 2p Tuesday at 197 Shrewsbury Avenue. He was charged with robbing the Pequeno Diamante store, also on Shrewsbury Avenue, at gunpoint on July 18.

The arrest followed an investigation that involved Sgt. Ramos, the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office Forensics Unit, and New Jersey State Police AFIS unit. Efforts to identify the second suspect continue, according to a news release by Capt. Stephen McCarthy.

In addition to the robbery charge, Delevry was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. Municipal Court Judge William Himelman set bail at $107,500; Delevry is locked up in the Monmouth County Correctional Institute.

Police are also investigating a break-in at another Shrewsbury Avenue store at about 2:15a Monday.

On responding to a report of glass breaking, Patrolwoman Wendy Samis arrived at at Sports Variety Luna, at 92 Shrewsbury Avenue, and found that the front window to the store had been broken with a large rock.

Missing, police later determined, were 20 Playerz jerseys, some with “Los Angeles” embroidered on the front and “LA” on the back, some with the “Southside” on the front and the number 13 on the back, and one white with black sleeves with “Playerz 67″ on the front and the number 67 on the back.

Also taken were 19 pairs of Low Rider and Ben Davis pants

Police are looking for three Hispanic males seen running from scene with armloads of clothing. They were last seen entering the apartment complex at 50 Locust Avenue. One was wearing a white t-shirt, another was wearing a black t-shirt, and the third was wearing a black sports jersey with the number 55 or 56.
