IT’S ALL OVER BUT THE VOTING & COUNTING

Cangemi_votes_2_110607Parrillo_votes_2_110607
Council candidate Grace Cangemi arrives at the 8th district polling station (the Senior Citizens’ Center, on Shrewsbury Avenue), presumably to “re-elect” herself. Joe Parrillo of Madison Avenue emerges from a voting booth at the district 4 station, at the United Methodist Church on Broad Street.

Voting was moderate-to-busy at two Red Bank polling stations visited by redbankgreen at midmorning today.

The 4th district had seen about 75 voters come in. Over at the 8th, about 40 citizens had pushed the buttons. Workers at both stations said those numbers were on par with activity seen in the last general election.

Polls are open until 8p. If you intend to vote and need a refresher on using the new-ish touch screens, the link to the Monmouth County online video demonstration for some reason is inoperative. We’re waiting to hear back from the county on whether it’ll be fixed.

Meanwhile, here’s how the machines work:

Instead of pulling a lever to cast a vote, users make their selections on a touch-screen display, touching a button next to the name of the preferred candidate or the answer to a public question. A green X will light up to show the selection. Votes can be changed before all selections are submitted by simply touching the same button again, which turns off the green X.

For write-in votes (’personal choice selections’ in the nomenclature of the the machines, as though other options were not personal choices), a keyboard is installed in each voting machine. Touch the ‘personal choice’ button on the same line as the office for for which you’re writing in a name. A blinking green X will appear. Then type in the name, using the arrow pointing right to make spaces, and the left arrow to make corrections. Check that you’ve spelled the name correctly, and press ‘enter’ on the keyboard.

After all selections have been made, push the red ‘cast votes’ button on the lower right of the display to submit your choices.

No, the curtain behind you doesn’t automatically open after you’ve cast your votes, as with the old lever machines. This seems to throw some people off.

  • I voted this am. I was the 11th person to vote at 7:30 am. At the Church on White Street, Mayor Menna was there too.

  • Dear God,
Please dont let me have to face another council session with Sharon in Office, please let the voters see her for what she is, a Tool of the democratic machine, all body and no engine. Let us, for once vote for change, for the better in this borough. Amen.

  • I made a stupid mistake that I didn't catch until I cast my votes and walked out of the curtains… I forgot to give my preferences on the Questions. I saw them on the paper that was mailed to our house, knew what I was going to vote, and then somehow the "levers" didn't catch my eye while I was in the booth. When I realized it, it was too late. Did anyone else make this mistake with the current electronic system, or was I the only dingbat?

  • For some reason I always used to miss the questions when we had the old fashioned machines - this time - I saw them on the new push button ballot

  • Gary,

    Praying for an election result?

What if God does not come through?

Is there still reason to believe?

Does God really have time for your district today? Especially with the problems in Afghanistan, Africa, and Iraq jsut to name a few. Maybe those people should pray to God too.

Oh yeah they already do. It is not working. Not their prayer is wrong but prayer is not real action. You must act if you really want change.

  • Dear Gary,
As I stated yesterday, I have lent my support to John and Grace as well as Jennifer Beck. The democrats have been running with the devil this year and I have advised them that there is still time to change and that they should begin praying in my churches starting now.
    As for Keith,
You non-believer you. You will rot in Hell with Satan and the rest of the devil's pawns and non-believers.

  • God,
I call upon you to admit that you are nothing but a fraud. We all
know that the real God leaves unto Cesar what is Cesar's and is way too old to be using the Internet. And it was my little angle friend who told me that you are not even from Red Bank but instead from that place California. In the wee hours of the morning you attempted to Google "sperm bank" but that red head from In and Out Burger would not get out of your head….. a mistake we could all make. Oh yes the angle told me everything. I would have spoken up earlier had I not heard so many verified positive reports of Rosary Beed grasping citizens exiting the booths uttering the words "I voted for Grace, God told me Zippy is a disgrace."

  • Dear The Truth about,
The only thing truthful in your writings are that people stated "I voted for Grace, God told me Zippy is a disgrace". You need to attend church every day for the next year until you learn to respect me; otherwise, you will be sent to hell when your time is up.

  • Dear Red Bank Voters,
It appears that you only heard part of my endorsement. I want to thank you for voting for Grace. Unfortunately John does not appear to have the votes needed. I feel that you have made an unwise choice in not electing John. He has a good heart. Hopefully he runs again next time with Gary. They could help make the town more Heavenly. You will need to go to church this week and ask for forgiveness as to why John who is named after John the Saint is not representing your community and we will have extra collection plates available for you. And finally I am at least better at picking elections than football games. 2 out of my 3 endorsements came through(Jennifer and Grace)whereas I am in last place in my football pool. God loves football. Go Giants!

  • Dear Jennifer,
Congratulations and Good Luck! It wouldn't hurt if you mention me in your victory speech. Keep spreading the word of the Lord!
