EX-FAIR HAVEN COP PLEADS TO CHILD PORN

A retired Fair Haven policeman and former borough official has taken a plea of endangering he welfare of a child after he was alleged to have used a Borough Hall computer to view child pornography, the Asbury Park Press reports today.

From the article:

William Acker, 52, resigned his posts as deputy borough clerk and assistant tax collector in March 2006 amid allegations that he had used his office computer to surf Internet porn sites.

Following his resignation, borough police received allegations that he had downloaded child pornography and lurid sex stories on his computer, the Monmouth County Prosecutor”s Office said.

Acker had held the borough administrative posts from December 2004 until March 2006. Prior to that he had been a Fair Haven police officer, retiring after 20 years’ service, officials said.

Fair Haven police turned the case over to the prosecutor’s computer crimes unit, which found “13 images of children under the age of 16 engaged in prohibited sex acts,” Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said.

Sentencing is scheduled for April 25 before state Superior Court Judge Anthony J. Mellaci Jr. in Freehold.

In return for the guilty plea, the prosecutor’s office said it will recommend Acker be given a probationary sentence, Valentin said.

  • The Prosecutor's office will recommend a probationary sentence for this pedophile? You have to be kidding me.

In case after case, Luis Valentin has given away the store rather than take cases to trial. When does Valentin's five year term as Monmouth County Prosecutor expire anyway? If for some reason the Governor decides to reappoint this clown, I would hope that Senator Beck and the other senators that represent parts of Monmouth county would stand up and exercise some senatorial courtesy and block Valentin's reappointment. Monmouth County can't afford another five years of spineless incompetence.

  • The betrayal of trust re: a police officer with a penchant for pedophilia calls for far more than probation. As Fair Haven parents, we trusted our police department with the safety of our kids and were grateful when they accompanied our kids on sleep over school trips, like the camping and band trips. I don't remember if Officer Acker accompanied our children on these sleep overs but it's creepy. What a horrible betrayal of trust this is.

  • I think if Officer Acker were a pedophile after this incident became public so would criminal acts he committed.
Have known Officer Acker for many years and have a hard time believing the accusations. I have followed the case from a distance and have found inconsistency in some of the reported facts. In one of the first article in the press about this case they reported that pictures were found in his desk in June. The most current article states he left his job in March. How does anyone know they were his pictures? What if he exercised poor judgement and used a public computer to view pornography and child pornography sites attached themselves to the cookies. For all of you passing judgement what would a computer expert find on your hard drive that you didn't know was there because you viewed an adult site? What if Officer Acker could not afford an attorney or forensic computer expert to examine the alleged PC? If he is really guilty then he should be punished if he plead guilty because that's what gave him the least expensive alternative that's sad and the system proves once again that money changes everything.

  • I think I missed something is he a pedophile or did he look at porn on the net?

  • He is no pedophile. He looked at porn on the computer. Check your computers people. You husbunds, wifes and children have visited porn sites. Do you know how old these people are in the pictures? I think not. Are you kid touchers? If your computers are clean, which I don't think they will be,then you can continue your angry comments. I don't agree with his performance at work. I don't agree with his need for such material at all. Check your computers. You will be shocked!
