HOUSE FIRE ON ELM

A fast-moving fire did extensive damage to a Red Bank house this afternoon. Firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control.

The blaze, reported at about 3:20p, swept the second floor and attic of the single-family structure at 37 Elm Place.

Doug Muckley, whose mother, Janice, owns the house, said he was headed upstairs to take a shower when he saw smoke. “I tried to go in there, but I got the top of my head singed,” he told redbankgreen.

Witnesses said firefighters were on the scene in about four minutes, just as flames were shooting above the peak of the roof and rapidly burning through vinyl siding on the structure.

There was no immediate report on the cause of the blaze.

  • Their quick action saved the house to the right of Jan's: you can see how the shingles are curled in the 3rd picture, and in the last picture you can see how the wood on the side of the house is charred.

  • Nice job as always Red Bank!!

But I have one question? In the photos you see firefighters actively engaged in firefighting except one. What's up with the Lieut.in the pink hood staring out the window? Never saw that in any manual?

  • For the better part of 30 years, my family lived in that house and raised our kids and our pups. There were so many times, day and night, that we heard the sirens rushing to help "someone else." This was our time and, thank God, no one was inside the house.
The response and awareness of everyone - passersby, RBFD, RBPD, EMT, the great folks of Elm Place - was miraculous. There are a few things able to be salvaged thanks to the speed and professionalism of those who answer these calls. We have enormous gratitude to you all.
We proudly offer to those who have extended their bravery, assistance, and generosity our heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
    Blessings to all.
