Students at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School spent more than two hours this afternoon locked in classrooms while authorities investigated a security threat, redbankgreen has learned.

The Asbury Park Press reported that the school
entered into a 2 1/2-hour lockdown after school administrators had been notified of an online threat directed at a student, said Superintendent Peter Righi.
The online threat emanated from two locales, he said.
Students were dismissed at 2:40 p.m. under supervision from the Police Department and Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Further details on the nature of the threat were not immediately available.
Our calls to the high school administration and the police were not immediately returned.
Senior Mike Roig tells us that students were told to return to their first-period homerooms at about noon. They then spent about two and half hours in their classrooms before being released at the end of the school day, he said.
Roig said the lockdown was triggered when, “apparently, a student at R-FH received a threat via the Internet.”
He said students were later told that two people had been responsible for sending the threat, and were apprehended, though he didn’t know where.
In the interim, he said, Principal Tracy Handerhan made an announcement telling students not to use their cellphones, and that the school was in lockdown mode.
“To be honest, the atmosphere was light — in fact, there was a good amount of goofing around” in his homeroom, Roig said. But after one period, “It became clear that it wasn’t a drill, and in fact, Mrs. Handerhan made another announcement that it was not a drill.”

What a shame. Where are we heading as a society? I feel sorry for the poor uninvolved kids that must have had to wear a brave face while not knowing what was going on. This sort of thing didn't happen in my time, some 25 years ago. I can't even imagine why anyone would want to breed anymore.
Ah, it brings back memories. I was in elementary school in the early 70s, and it seemed like every year we had a couple of bomb scares.
dan you are a moron
I was there. It was horrible. They didn't let us know what was going on, and claimed "other schools" were also on lockdown, because the threat was not directed at us. However, I contacted friends from : RBR, RBC, Shore, Mast, and Ranney. None of them even knew what I was talking about.
The administration should have informed the students of the exact circumstances when they were told to report back to period one, so they could act accordingly.
dam i wish i got out of class for 2 and a half hours
When I was in 7th grade up in Union County, a kid pulled a gun out of his jacket and showed a few of us (we were seated in the "silent section" of the cafeteria where misbehavers were placed) No one told and no one freaked out. We just thought he was an idiot jerk we needed to stay away from. It's amazing how things have changed. Nowadays there'd be lockdowns and headlines. I guess since Colombine it has to be that way, but…
