Contractors at work on the dock Monday afternoon.
The long-awaited renovation of the Fair Haven municipal dock is finally underway. And the timing… well, it could be better.
The $200,000 project, being handled by contractor Bird Construction, calls for replacement of the decking with a Trex recycled plastic surface, new railings and benches, lamps and a bait-cutting station. New landscaping, benches and a bike rack will be installed at the dock’s entrance, at the north end of Fair Haven Road.
The work is expected to be completed in mid-to-late August, says Borough Administrator Mary Howell.
Mayor Mike Halfacre tells redbankgreen he’s only had two complaints about the scheduling of the project so far. But of course that was before the arrival of the dolphins in this part of the Navesink River.
“I am not happy the dock work is going this far into the summer,” he tells us via email, “but we
were kind of stuck with it.”

Does any project in Fair Haven ever run smoothly? Guess they can't blame T&M any longer. What's their new excuse?
Only two complaints? Are you kidding me? The citizens of FH know not to bother anymore. Disgraceful.
Well i hate to say this but the 1st thing is TREX is the worst Composite Decking on the market it was the first back in the day but today it is not maintenance free any more. There is a lot better products out there then TREX. Also they should be ripping the old decking up going over the old decking like that is gonna cause a heat build up between the Trex and the old decking and the deck will be like a roller coaster .Composite Decking needs to breath on both sides. Someone should stop them and ask someone who knows .
