BON JOVI, SOME OTHER GUY TO HOST OBAMA

ObamaSen. Barack Obama

Prepare for a traffic jam in the vicinity of Navesink River Road next week.

Democratic presidential nominee-apparent Barack Obama will visit Middletown on Friday, September 5 for a two-stop lovefest that wraps up at the riverfront chateau of popstar Bon Jovi, today’s Star-Ledger reports.

The fundraiser for the party coffers begins at the home of Democratic national finance chairman Phil Murphy. Tickets are going for $2,300 per, the Sledger reports.

New Jersey Democratic Chairman Joseph Cryan tells the Sledger he’s

excited that the candidate would be in the Garden State only hours after Republican candidate John McCain formally accepts his party’s nomination in Minnesota.

Cryan said Bon Jovi had been offered a slot as a New Jersey delegate to this week’s Democratic National Convention in Denver, but turned it down.

“We had chatted about it. But when I found out Bon Jovi was hosting the fund-raiser, we dropped it,” Cryan said.

This isn’t the first time Murphy and Jovi have tag-teamed. Two years ago, they honored Al & Tipper Gore with a reception at the Jovi house followed by dinner at the Murphy house.

Tickets to that event, a fundraiser for 180 Turning Lives Around, a non-profit that provides support services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault., cost $10,000.

Murphy is a former Goldman Sachs executive who is now a principal in Murphy Endeavors, based on East Front Street in Red Bank.

  • Obama being hosted by a rich person? Let's see all those Dems who went after Cindy for her Rumson stop comment now. I have no problem with Obama singing a little "Living on a Prayer" to pad the coffers. I do have a problem with hypocrites, so expect to see the same people step up and rip Obama.

  • Jon,
Please give Obama a tour of your fake bee farm so Obama will see that we can all do our part to help the environment and scam the tax payers at the same time.

  • Who is going to pick up the bill for this visit. Security paid for by US! Traffic jam and a bill for our local police department to eat. Elvis allways wanted to be a US marshal and Bon Jovi allways wants to be a bigshot Dem.

  • Yeah, it's getting ridiculous with all these entertainers meddling in politics. They should stay out of it. Next thing you know some Hollywood actor will be elected governor, or even president!

  • BFrank that lives at 776, if this is the 'homeowner' youre a complete jerk and all the neighbors despise you. Youre losing that property in Foreclosure and it serves you right. I also understand the Middletown Police are there on a regular basis….

  • I misunderstood. When Obama said he was for the "little guy" I thought this included his half brother George, who lives in a shack near Nairobi on one dollar a month. Now that it takes $2000 just to shake Obama's hand, I guess the "little guy" means those less than five feet three.
