Red Bank police say they arrested a gloved man yesterday afternoon shortly after he emerged from a Bank Street house he had broken into, according to the Asbury Park Press.

The suspect, Christopher J. Melendez, 21, of Asbury Park, was seen by a neighbor knocking on the front door of the house before prying a rear window open shortly before 1p, the Press reports.
Sgt. Eliot Ramos, Investigator Juan Sardo and Patrolman Dawn Shields reported seeing Melendez run from the rear of the house to a wooded area.
When they arrested him, he was wearing gloves, Ramos said. When police inspected the house they found someone had been going through the dresser drawers looking for valuables, Ramos said.
Melendez was charged with burglary and ordered held in the Monmouth County jail in lieu of $51,000 bail, the Press reports.

Open for all comments here, any defense that the do gooder can come up with,
Will it help the crime situation if I claim that Melendez is illegal?
The last time that someone with a Latino surname committed a crime, some posters seemed to think it would help if we all jumped to conclusions about the perpetrator's immigration status.
I think its safe to say. If he is not illegal then we can just talk about the free healthcare and schooling we provided to illegals and their children.
Was looking at all of the nice signs on the Westside of town that feature Lewis and Zipprich. Kind of strange that A LOT, AND I MEAN A LOT, are on the lawns of homes that are occupied by people of extreme dubious legal stature ( I state this because of the El Salvadorian flags that adorn one property, and the Mexican flags that double as curtains in several others and of course the mattress's and out of state plates), in this country, and then more of them are on the lawns of vacant properties (a sign of good things by the democratic party leadership here in Red Bank, over taxation etc), and then, to boot, dropping my daughter at school on River Street there at the bottom of the road, is another sign for them (on public property, didn't you people agree that this was not to be)?. Any way, the sign at the school should really be in Spanish, that's what 80% of the parents that travel this road are. Red Bank Green, you should ride around and check that out, kind of funny actually
The Salvadorean flags are actually not a good indicator of "dubious legal stature." Quite the opposite.
Most Salvadoreans in this country have what is called temporary protected status (TPS) and are far, far more likely to be here legally than their Mexican counterparts. So if you're going to make an uneducated guess, a Salvadorean flag is probably a good indicator that a person is LEGAL.
I'm trying to give you the benefit of the doubt, but when people say things like this it makes it clear how little they know what they are talking about.
send them back to0. key word is temporary. we pay for their healthcare and education too.
Does anyone know if there is a moratorium on new restaurants going into Redbank?
Hi - what I have heard there is no "Moratorium" for restaurants in red bank - what the town does is have the potential Restaurant owner pay into the parking "slush" fund - based on some number of spaces needed - like let's says 10 @ 500.00 per space - that allows the restaurant to move forward - as far as the other comments made above - I find it funny that in a town so heavily segregated - (you have a privately funded "charter" school that is predominantly white and bucks the demographic statistic for the age levels) That we could bring the town into the 21st century and fight the underlying racism - we have business on broad street that use undocumented aliens as their own personal slaves - we have business on broad street that have policies of not hiring African Americans because "they make the food look dirty" (an actual statement from a Broad street store manager) This is the United States of America it time for a change!! Criminals are Criminals whether they defraud mortgage lenders or burgle a home - You all need to take a look in the mirror and decide whether your a part of the solution or the problem -
Mad Martha -
The (predominantly white) RB charter school is funded by taxpayer money - it's not privately funded.
"send them back to0…. we pay for their healthcare and education too."
Hey, now, when you talk about shipping out legal immigrants, it gets personal. My mom came here from Ireland. Are you talking about sending her back, too? She only earned an income for a few years after finishing school and before she started dropping anchor babies, and now she's too old to work. Are you mad about paying for her healthcare and education, too? What about the education and healthcare of her anchor babies?
Or do we only want to deport low-income immigrants?
Red Banker,
Oh, I thought the beef most people had was with people who immigrate here illegally. I see by your comments you want the legal ones kicked out, too. Sorry I misunderstood your intentions.
Deport Dan's non-productive mother. She has done little more than leech off this country the sacrifices made by others.
Amend our Constitution so that only the children of American citizens may become citizens by virtue of being born in the United States. Make the change retroactive so that we can deport Dan and anyone related to Dan. Take all of Dan's money and give it to me.
"I find it funny that in a town so heavily segregated"
Is this forced segregation - as part of some master plan? Try to remember that 1) people voluntarily choose to live and associate with people they have the most in common with and 2) how can it be otherwise - can Jose afford a big house in a wealthy neighborhood?
Life is unfair. I'd love to live in a big Rumson mansion. Alas, it's not in the cards unless I hit the power ball. Should I get angry at the world?
"we have business on broad street that use undocumented aliens as their own personal slaves"
Is there a gun to the head of the undocumented alien forcing him to stick around? What's going on here is a supply/demand equilibrium. Those "jobs" exist *only* because the wages are abysmally low. The businesses could probably figure out a way to get by without them but the cheap labor makes these business owners lazy and inefficient.
Besides, I doubt this "slave" has more than a 5th grade education and knows little if any english. How do you think the market values this level of human capital? What else can he do that would compensate him better?
"we have business on broad street that have policies of not hiring African Americans because "they make the food look dirty" (an actual statement from a Broad street store manager)"
Really? Is this documented someplace/do you have proof? And is it an accurate depiction? Taking your claim at face value, maybe the real reason is that they don't hire AAs who wear gansta regalia 24/7 and/or have trouble showing up on time. I'm pretty sure that business owners would fall over themselves to hire ANYONE who is capable, diligent, reasonably articulate, and reliable regardless of race. Pay considerations notwithstanding.
