RBCS parnet - you forgot to mention that the "Charter school" does not (repeat does not) have an ESL "English as a second language" program (another hurdle created) as mandated by the state - but since they ACT as a private school (with non-certified teachers and such) they skirt that issue- and What Proof do you have that there is a Gang Problem in the Middle School or is that just more pinky white paranoia - I think you folks just need to face up to the fact that your bigots and need to blame anything "unknown" on a specific group (regardless of whether or not they are the specific problem or you have the facts) and a "Bigots" not blame the real culprits which would be the past Bush Administration and the Greed of businesses to lure people into the country for low/non-taxing paying jobs & wages. so go out and eat at your favorite Broad street Pizza shop (just know that your money is going to pay an illegals wages)

I have to wonder, Dan, if you're taking the considerations of the parents into question.

Many of the Hispanic children have parents that don't speak English, thus making that extra step of enrolling their kids just a bit more difficult. Not that there aren't many parents are RBCS that don't speak English as well. Not to mention, many have family members that would have kids automatically going to the regular schools anyway so they don't see the point.

It takes an extra step to enroll your child into the Charter School. Many parents just don't bother with it.

And for any of you that don't believe there is a gang problem...well, we all know ignorance is bliss, right?

Has anyone else seen "SUR13" spray painted on various walls in Red Bank? I've seen it a few different times (e.g., on a wall at the corner of West Bergen & Shrewsbury Ave) and I've often wondered if it was gang-related in some way.

What you originally posted was that a student brought a knife to school to defend himself against a gang. You hinted that ethnicity had something to do with it. You stated that there are two gangs in the school.

The other article on Red Bank Green says that a student brought a pocket knife to school to protect himself from someone outside school, but that no gangs were involved. And that there is no evidence of gangs in the school. No ethnicity is mentioned.

The story does not back up your rumor of latin gang activity at the schools.

Maybe they don't see a problem. Maybe a RB that resembles present day Passaic, Paterson, or North Bergen (or Van Nuys, CA) will be paradise. Think of the "vibrant" community!
