SPRINGSTEEN NAMED IN DIVORCE CASE

SpringsteensBruce Springsteen and Patti Scialfa outside the Count Basie Theatre last May.

Almost three years after Bruce Springsteen and wife Patti Scialfa went shopping at the Antique Center of Red Bank to help dispel rumors of a split, a West Long Branch man claims in divorce papers that his wife committed adultery with Springsteen "at various times and places too numerous to mention," according to a report in Star Magazine.

Star cites divorce papers filed March 27 in Monmouth County Superior Court by Arthur Kelly against his wife, Ann.

The Star quotes an unidentified source thusly: "Ann says she and Bruce are just friends, but there have been rumors
going around the area for more than a year that they had gotten way too
close after meeting at a local gym."

Springsteen and Scialfa, his wife of 18 years, have homes in Rumson and Colts Neck and are frequently seen around Red Bank.

The celebrity couple were the subject of breakup rumors in August, 2006, when the New York Post reported that the Boss was making time with an unidentified September 11, 2001 widow.

Amid the media frenzy that erupted as a result, Springsteen and Scialfa gave put on a scruffy little performance with some old string instruments at the antique center and told patrons the rumors untrue.

On his website, Springsteen called the report "unfounded and ugly rumors" and termed his time with Scialfa "the best 18 years of my life."

They have three children.

  • I think it's awesome that Springsteen is still popular enough to garner unwanted attention in the form of divorce paper name dropping. Here's to the Boss, who will forever be in our hearts!

Now, I do feel that the man citing the Boss' adultery as the cause of the divorce is going a little unjust. I would think that a woman cheating on her husband would be a cause for divorce, but with whom she cheats is not necessarily the man's fault.

Unless, of course, Springsteen was the one who initiated this alleged illicit affair, in which case he IS at fault, and the man shouldn't be divorcing his wife, but giving the Boss a good, swift one-two into his face.

Not that I condone violence or anything.

  • who cares? Mr. Ward, this is well below your usual good standards. The Boss (& in particular his family) should be left alone – I would expect there are far more important things to report on these days…. like bowling alleys running massive 50/50 scams, muddy river bank non-parks to be named, and elusive white dolphins no longer swimming in our waters….

  • I agree with Captain Nemo - what is the point of this, "news worthy" anyone who lives on the peninsula knows that Bruce is a descent guy, and just because some whack-o thinks he's been porking his wife, does not make it a story or give it credence. There is GANG GRAFITTI on the front of "Red Ginger" Homes on Monmouth Street across from Teak - 3 foot tall in Bright Blue Spray Paint on 4 of the 5 pillars out front - done by what appears to be the Mexican gang MS13 right done the street from city hall and all RBG can come up with is a story like this? why has no one made mention of the CRIME?

  • First of all Mr. Springsteen never had sexual relations with that woman. Secondly, all of you middle-aged women trying to make yourselves hot down at the gym are tempests. You are all insure and unloved because your husband just hired a beautiful 25 year old skinny blonde and he has been working late. All you can do to try to get back at your husband is to attempt to hook up with this great rock star. We stand by the statement that Mr. Springsteen has never cheated on his second wife and only cheated on his first wife with the person who become his second wife so he really is not the cheater you all claim him to be. And if for some reason he did cheat on his wife with you or your friends please keep your mouth shut as you promised. Everyone wishes they could be Bruce Springsteen but there is only one, so learn to appreciate him and his generocity to the community. Thank you.

  • It’s a sad, sad day when ones alleged marital indiscretions are the subject of tabloid news reports.

Back on my planet we have a much more evolved and mature marital structure. Very similar to your motor vehicle department here on earth, a marriage license is good for 2 years, either party may elect to renew or allow it to expire every two years.

The renewal process includes fairly stringent inspection standards relative to marital weight limits and operability of features. The inspector can even fail you if you or your spouse does not meet minimum performance standards.

Personally I’m on my 5th wife, started with the lovely Lotus, subsequently downgraded and now happily married to Yugo.

Right on Broad Street, seem to be marking territory, if I were the property owner I’d leave it there for a while, time to shine a light on this issue. Our miscreants appear to be getting a lot more brazen.

    3. That said, the graffiti story is more important. In times like this, it is CRITICAL to keep fixing the broken windows. Keeping town from going to hell doesn't necessarily take either money or rocket science.

  • I don't know anything about the Middle School,my kids are in RBR but I do know that a student was taken out of the high school on a trauma board about a month ago after being jumped by two other students, ALLEGEDLY gang related. This is the crap that our kids experience at school in OUR TOWN. This is not simple school yard squabbles. I will be relieved when my children graduate, I can't afford to send them to private school.

  • I asked my kid who is the middle school, he says he knows nothing about an incident (and you'd think he'd have heard something) on Monday - the "Tag" on the "Red Ginger" Store front is "SGD 12" as well and can't find out the meaning either, amazing that it is in "BRIGHT Blue" paint and the Building owners the Noglow's haven't done anything about it yet - feel bad for the store owners. I guess it's not too important to the local PD, City Council or the Mayor.

  • It is usually a gang marking their territory as a warning to others, most likely whoever is doing it, and it looks like the same delinquent from the style, are harmless juveniles.

Better safe than sorry though, should not be too difficult to catch whoever it is with some surveillance, cameras, patrols, and neighborhood awareness.

Might be time for residents to request a meeting with the counsel and explore ways to help the police.

  • MadMartha and LordJohn,

the tag on Broad St. and Red Ginger is SGD13 and IS a gang tag. it was also painted on the side of the Middle School in HUGE letters. When parents pulled in to drop their kids off on Monday morning it was the first thing they saw. Unfortunately, i didn't have my camera with that morning. When I went back later that afternoon the school had powerwashed it off, but the image is still recognizable and I took a picture. When the knife incident at the Middle School was reported I, like Done in RB, was called a racist AND accused of spreading rumors for mentioning the gang issue. That same person also called John Ward an irresponsible web-master for allowing my post. How could there possibly be gangs in RB? How could I say this about 12-14 year old children? This kind of stick your head in the sand mentality is ridiculous and ignoring this problem is not going to make it go away.

Get know your neighbors, your counsel representative. Make some noise/ Remember, cockroaches only come out in the dark, it’s our town, we can make it inhospitable for whoever is doing this.

  • Bruce is great. The pride of NJ. And believe me, NJ needs pride. My wife has often said Bruce is the only person she would sleep with other than me. And you know what, I'd be OK with that. Everyone needs a fantasy. All the negative remarks I have read are from people who still live in NJ and are too "small town" to understand the impact Bruce Springsteen makes on the rest of the world. Wake up and realize his presence in your community is a gift. I don't agree with his politics, but he makes great music, inspires others and is very very generous. I see it everywhere and I don't even look real hard. And before you are all so quick to cast stones, look in the mirror. What positive impact have you ever made in life? Then look at what Bruce has done and you'll realize that you will never measure up and your only pleasure is his potential pain.

All papers routinely report news broken by other papers. The New York Times and the Washingtong Post does it. In this case there are court documents, so the story is fair game.

Besides it's a no brainer in NJ courts- Judges can and often say "it's my court and I can do what I want" (emphasis on "I") they have complete discretion whether their actions are contrary to NJ law or not. They will squash the party that wants to involve Springsteen in this litigation, Good o'l 1960's Alabama style.
