ALLEGED WEST SIDE SHOOTER REJECTS PLEA

Suspect1The alleged gunman in the November, 2007 double shooting at Red Bank’s Montgomery Terrace has rejected a plea bargain offered by prosecutors and will instead stand trial, the Asbury Park Press reports.

The newspaper says Eatontown resident Anthony Sims, 20, rejected an offer by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s office of a 17-year prison sentence. He told state Superior Court Judge Edward M. Neafsey in Freehold that he wants to go to trial.

Neafsey set October 27 as the trial date.

Both of the shooter’s victims survived their wounds. A third man who authorities say was also fired at was unhurt.According to the Press, Sims faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted on all charges, which include three counts of first-degree attempted murder.

Sims remains in the Monmouth County Jail in lieu of $3 million bail.

  • “are the mexicans really the problem on the west side?”

    False dilemma fallacy.

The west side has multiple problems. The mexicans are one of them. Why not ask an accident victim with a compound fracture if his stage II cancer is really a problem.

  • The problem is not Mexicans, it’s men. At least half the Mexican population - the female half - is law-abiding. It’s males - Mexican or not - that are causing the problems.

And they’re overrunning our schools, dragging down test scores.

We just need to get all the males out of town.

  • You blame “The Mexican’s” for everything, that’s like blaming the whites for everything, it is a Multi-national population i.e. people from Mexico, Hondurans, Guatemala, Venezuela from all over the world, Why don’t you blame the real culprit, the Contractors and Businesses that lure these people here with the promise of a better life and good paying jobs? and start dropping the racist crap (it’s obvious you hate these people)that would be a start to correcting this situation…..

  • FRED, The problem is POVERTY and the lack of opportunity for the poor. White, Black, Mexican and other.

    Poverty =’s Despair,
Despair =’s Taking actions that blessed people could never image; i.e. depriving oneself of education, Dealing Drugs, robbing people, etc.

Have some compassion and be thankful that you are not “the problem”. But then again, maybe you are?

  • Mexicans and other illegals are A problem. No one said they are THE problem and certainly no one said they’re the cause of EVERY problem.

People love to mischaracterize the debate — like calling anyone with a different position a racist.

And CT, there ARE problems specific to the illegals which you dutifully try to distract people from.

If you don’t like OPEN and HONEST debate then how do you expect resolution?

  • the problem is a complete disrespect for society, it’s rules and the glorified “gangster” lifestyle of “let’s get a gun and bust a cap is his ass” that is a hallmark of the rap/hip-hop culture predominant in black culture (yes white kids listen to). You can blame poverty but I haven’t read of many poor whites shooting up houses, killing people over sneakers or shooting someone to “save face”. The simple fact is that the #1 cause of death for black young men is violence at the hands of other blacks is proof enough that there is a real problem and we need to look at new ways to deal with it. The old “well they are poor and driven to it doesn’t” work

  • Fred,

If there were more poor white folks around, you’d read about them robbing banks, etc. Oh wait, it is white guys robbing banks. When was the last time you read about a black man bilking investors or prescribing narcotics willy nilly? Do white men commit those crimes because of preppy culture?

It’s not Mexicans or blacks or illegals, it’s men. We need to do something about the male problem in this town and in this nation.

  • Yeah right no ones a Racist but all you can do is blame the illegal population - this guy isn’t an illegal (above)he’s not even from Red Bank. The Problem with Illegal immigrants is because the town DOES NOT ENFORCE the laws, the town council is populated with individuals who have benefited from the illegal labor in this town, Restaurants on Broad and Monmouth Streets employee illegals (to cut down on their overhead), Housewives in Rumson, Little Silver and Deal have illegal house cleaners and babysitters the reason there is any problem at all is because of the employers and the individuals who employee illegals, If the White people would stop this the illegals would go away. As far as crime being solely a Ghetto/Rap thing, your crazy, the guy who Robbed the last bank in town was a 60+ year old white dude (and that’s a violent crime) I bet most of the purse snatching and pick-pocketing going on town is being down by older white women (i.e. you put your wallet or purse down and it gets lifted). You just love blaming everyone else, must give you a sense of superiority and comfort, Let’s blame the other people. Red Bank isn’t Camden - so stop being such weenies and grow a spine or move to Shadow Lake already -shhh!

  • CT, I had a detailed reply that got caught in RBG Comment Control. But either you’re not keeping up with current events or you’re trying to bait me.

The social costs of illegal immigration should be obvious. Hospitals are bankrupted, municipal treasuries are strained, roads become more and more over crowded. And this just scratches the surface.

Why do we think that importing poverty and illiteracy is good for the USA? Have a solid argument? I’d like to hear it.

I’ve said this over and over: drive up to Paterson, Passaic, or N Bergen and take a good look around. Like what you see?

And for those who say it’s the fault of business - I agree! that is the demand side of the equation. In fact I say that business and the gubmint (politicians actually) are tag-teaming the public.

And a note to RBG man: you can delete my moderated post. It’s not a good argument anyway.

Everyone else: sorry to hijack this thread!

    urban vs suburban crime rates:

  • you can read what you want into those but its fairly common knowledge that black on black violence is epidemic. Where does that violence happen…in Montana? It happens in urban areas and the net result is hugely inflated instances of homocide and other violent crimes. You need to realize this is a problem with the urban culture of guns & gangs and stop making excuses about “oh they are so underpriviedged”

  • Fred,

I’ve heard about black on black violence, too, but I couldn’t find any facts on it.

You seem to imply that the violence rate among blacks in Montana is lower than in urban areas. I couldn’t find any facts to back that up either. If that were true, it would seem to indicate that the higher crime rate among blacks is a result of where people live, not the color of their skin or the music they listen to.

  • just sayin,

I actually started reading the attached links, and it was clear that you hadn’t read them. Read the article in #1, and you’ll find that it’s talking about legal immigrants, not illegals. That article says, “Illegal immigrants are barred from the following federal public benefits: grants, contracts, loans, licenses, retirement, welfare, health, disability, public or assisted housing, post secondary education, food assistance, and unemployment benefits. States are barred from providing state or locally funded benefits to illegal immigrants unless a state law is enacted granting such authority.” That contradicts items 2, 3 and 9 in your list

Then I found that your list is from a chain mail circulating the Internet. Here is an examination of the claims made in the chain mail:
    http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/do_illegal_immigrants_cost_3383_billion_dollars.html

And here’s a real study on immigrants and crime: http://ideas.repec.org/p/fip/fedhwp/wp-05-19.html
    From the abstract:
“Despite the widespread perception of a link between immigration and crime, immigrants have much lower institutionalization (incarceration) rates than the native born. More recently arrived immigrants have the lowest comparative incarceration rates, and this difference increased from 1980 to 2000.”

  • “I think this country has been built by other country’s wretched refuse.”

Built by but not designed by. Ask yourself sometime why did North and South America end up so much differently?

Further, the pre-1920 wretched refuse did not come for the welfare state. And the post-1920 lockdown on immigration was the best thing that could happen to immigrants. It forced them to assimilate. Today’s SOTB crew has less reason to so as their numbers grow and even now resist it. “Press one for english”?? WTF is that? There is no melting pot today and attempts to encourage assimilation are vilified by leftists and diversicrats everywhere.

And where these people DO assimilate tends to be the welfare/petty criminal underclass UNLIKE the “refuse” of the days of yore.

We’re building an underclass which is increasing crime, teen pregnancy, need for social services and various means of tax consumption. As the demographics shift, the newcomers will recreate the same failed societies they left behind. How do I know this? It’s already started.

“I kind of like Paterson. And you can’t blame Paterson’s problems on Mexicans or illegals or whatever. That town’s been going downhill since electricity made water-powered mills obsolete.”

What about the other barrios? Been to SoCal lately? It’s a mess. Do you HONESTLY want more of that? Because THAT is our future.

“I didn’t see anything that related violence to ethnic makeup of neighborhoods. I didn’t even see anything relating race to commission of crimes at all. Did I miss something?”

Orwell noted that the most difficult thing to see is often what is right in front of your nose.

Take a look at this and let us know what it means to you…

  • Just sayin,

“the pre-1920 wretched refuse did not come for the welfare state”

Apparently, you still haven’t read the article in the first item of the chain mail you posted. Legal immigrants have to wait 5 years to get welfare. Illegals can never get it. No one is coming for the welfare state.

“We’re building an underclass which is increasing crime, teen pregnancy, need for social services and various means of tax consumption.”

Since the 90s, we’ve had decreases in crime (http://www.ojp.gov/bjs/glance.htm#Crime), teen pregnancy (http://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/mm5812a5.htm?s_cid=mm5812a5_e), welfare dependency (http://aspe.hhs.gov/hsp/indicators08/execsum.shtml). Tax consumption does seem to be skyrocketing lately, but the bulk of it seems to be going to banks, large corporations and insurance companies, not immigrants.

That map is cool. Compare it to this map (http://www.lehman.cuny.edu/deannss/geography/images2/mzonemin.png) and it looks like murders occur more frequently in neighborhoods with a higher percentage of minorities. I’d want some data on income levels and prevalence of guns ownership before drawing any conclusions about race causing crime, though.
