This week’s featured comment was posted by “Jack” underneath an an article that included some discussion of a plan by Red Bank officials to rename Locust Avenue in honor of the late mayor and Supreme Court Associate Justice Daniel J. O’Hern.
Regarding the Locust Avenue/O’Hern name change, I couldn’t agree more. As a resident of Drs. James Parker Boulevard/f/k/a and still commonly referred to as West Bergen Place, I can attest to the fact that it is extremely confusing and annoying to have two street names, especially when one is long and hard for people to digest (“what? dr? no drs., is that abbreviated, etc.”). People commonly can’t find the street name I decide to use on yahoo or other maps. And I think the police still use the old name in police reports. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice gesture, but they should just make the new name honorary or at least succinct!
