FAKE CRASH PHOTO HITS THE STANDS

libertymutualad1

Hey, remember that faux accident that tied up Broad Street in Red Bank for most of a day back in August?

With local government clearance, a photo crew used the intersection of Broad and West Bergen Place to stage what looked like the aftermath of a car crash.

They brought in a couple of banged-up vehicles, positioning one against the base of traffic light and the other across the intersection with fake steam coming out from under the hood.

All this for a print ad for Liberty Mutual Insurance.

Well, here’s the result, complete with some photo retouching that gives the car in the foreground the creepy melted-flesh look favored by horror films. The light pole appears to be a bit more atilt than it actually was.

Red Banker Craig Widmaier called this ad to our attention after he spotted it in the current issue of Sports Illustrated.

  • Countless motorists/taxpayers were delayed because the Red Bank Police Department allowed Liberty Mutual to stage this phony accident. Even worse, the RBPD allowed Liberty Mutual to do this on a weekday during normal business hours. The RBPD didn’t even have the sense to ask Liberty Mutual to film their “accident” on a weekend.

    Thanks for nothing, Red Bank Police Department.

  • …p.s. the lamp posts on opposite corners of this intersection still remain broken…perhaps RBPW is waiting for after the next photo op to fix?

  • I talked to the RBPD a few years ago, yes a few years, and was told we are aware of it and are looking into it. It was the basic blow off.

  • For the most part, the Red Bank Police Department doesn’t give a damn about the taxpayers of Red Bank. The insurance company was paying a couple of off-duty Red Bank cops to direct traffic while this commercial was being filmed. That’s why the RBPD allowed this insurance company to do what it did. The RBPD didn’t think about the motorists and the businesses that might be adversely affected by their decision. These cops were getting paid and that’s all they cared about.

  • To Cabbie and Cabbie 2;
    Just for your information, the town council gave the approval not the police department. Get you facts straight. I hope some of the police officers are reading your posts and write you several tickets that you deserve. You talk shit and won’t write your name as usual so maybe they should just do battle and write all of the cab drivers tickets, even the good one’s so you all suffer. Merry Christmas Mr. Gallagher.
