Thieves stole two cars from the same owner Tuesday evening, Fair Haven police say.
A Range Rover and a Mercedes, both parked in a driveway unlocked and with keys inside, were taken sometime between 5 p.m. and 8:30 p,m., Detective Jesse Dykstra tells redbankgreen.
“During dinnertime,” he said. “It was pretty brazen.”
Dykstra said police don’t yet know if the crime was planned or done on impulse. But as they did when Fair Haven was among a number of area towns hit with a wave of unlocked-car break-ins earlier this year, they’re advising residents to lock their cars.
“The first step is preventing it,” Dykstra said.
When’s the last time a car was stolen in Fair Haven, let alone two? Dykstra wasn’t sure, but he said it’s probably been six or seven years.
