Fire damaged a Rumson home and sent two volunteer firefighters to the hospital Christmas Day.
Rumson fire Chief Jymm Fenn tells redbankgreen that the fire, at 7 Briarwood Drive, caused by faulty wiring, results in significant damage to the two-story structure.
Fenn said the call came in as automated alarm at 5:40 p.m. The fire, which started with a newly installed light fixture above a first-floor fireplace, had traveled in the walls to a a bedroom and attic above.
Though now uninhabitable, the house is “absolutely repairable,” Fenn said. “the guys made a phenomenal stop.”
Two Sea Bright firefighters were injured. One was taken by ambulance to Monmouth Medical Center in Branch for a shoulder injury; he was treated and released. The other was treated on the scene for a minor neck burn, Fenn said.
In addition to Rumson and Sea Bright, fire companies from Little Silver, River Plaza, Navesink, Brevent Park and Atlantic Highlands responded to the scene, with Shrewsbury backstopping Rumson in case of a second emergency.
Neighboring Fair Haven did not respond because of an alarm in that town just minutes earlier. That turned out to be a minor smoke condition, said Fair Haven First Assistant Chief Scott Eskwitt.
