WHERE HAVE I SEEN THIS?

Can you identify the subject of this week’s Where Have I Seen This? Take a guess! Please send your answer to wherehaveiseenthis@redbankgreen.com.

Last week, you may recall, we showed you three domed metal lids with foot pedals encased in concrete and brick.

They’re the tops of in-ground trash silos, of course. These are branded “Dover Garbage Receiver.”

“The Dover underground garbage receiver is the sanitary method of handling garbage,” says this 1937 ad in the Nashua, New Hampshire Telegraph. “Perfectly odor less, non-freezing, animal, insect and rodent proof.”

Our set is in front of the apartment house at 95 East Front Street in Red Bank, just two doors east of Riverview Medical Center. They’re in the lawn out front, and no, they’re not used, a tenant tells us.

Where Have I Seen This? heard from Macy Riley, Anthony Jude Setaro, John Russoniello (who lives there with his bride of one week, Liz), Wade Davis (who sent us a Googlecam shot of the house with his answer), Andrew Rytter, Stephen Mitchell, Dan Mancuso, Joel Berman, Cate Knight (a former tenant who says there’s “no better place to live in RB on the Navesink, except for the flying roaches”), Boris Kofman (who also sent us a Googlecam link),Sam Gregg (writing from Havre de Grace, Maryland), Ron Choma and Trish DePonti.

Thanks to all for writing in.
