An unidentified Fair Haven man remained hospitalized Friday afternoon after being hit by a car in the A&P shopping center parking lot in Little Silver.
Police Chief Dan Shaffery said authorities were still attempting to notify relatives of the victim, who was airlifted to Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune following the 10:03 a.m. accident.
Shaffery said the victim was 74 or 75 years old. His condition was not immediately available at about 3 p.m.
Details of the accident were not immediately available.
The driver of the car involved was identified as John C. Heidelberger, 46, of Red Bank. His vehicle, a 2007 Toyota Camry, was moving in the traffic lane within the parking lot at the time of the accident, Shaffery said.
The victim was airlifted by Medevac helicopter to the trauma unit at Jersey Shore after a transfer at the ballfield behind the firehouse on Prospect Avenue, just a short distance from the accident scene, Shaffery said.
Sergeant Paul Halpin and the Monmouth County SCART (Serious Collision Analysis Response Team) are investigating.
