The Veterans Monument on Monmouth Street is the scene of an annual Memorial Day observance on Monday, one of several going on around the Green.

From Red Bank to Rumson; Shrewsbury to Sea Bright; Little Silver, Middletown and Fair Haven, Memorial Day is more than just a paid day off and a chance to fire up the grille. The various municipalities, first responders and volunteer organizations of the greater Green will be honoring the service of those who sacrificed all for their country, in a series of hometown events that take place this Monday morning.

LITTLE SILVER: The borough’s annual Memorial Day Parade lines up 8:15 am at the intersection of Willow Drive and Parker Avenue, concluding with a 9 am ceremony at Memorial Park.

FAIR HAVEN: The 2014 Memorial Day Parade commences at 9 am at Knollwood School on Hance Road, continuing to Memorial Park on River Road, and concluding with an observance ceremony there.

RUMSON: The borough’s Memorial Day Parade begins at 10 am, concluding with a service at Victory Park.

SHREWSBURY: The borough holds its annual Memorial Day observation at 10 am at Patriot Isle (Sycamore Avenue and Route 35 in the historic district), followed by refreshments at the nearby Shrewsbury Hose Company No.1.

MIDDLETOWN: American Legion Post 338, in cooperation with the township, hosts its annual parade beginning 10 am at Bayshore Middle School on Leonardville Road, and ending at the post’s home on Route 36 at approximately 11:30.

RED BANK: The annual Memorial Day Commemoration will be held at 11 am in front of the Veterans’ Monument (51 Monmouth Street, corner of Drummond Place).

SEA BRIGHT: The annual Memorial Day observance happens in front of the firehouse, 1099 Ocean Avenue, at 11 am.
