Authors Alison Gaylin (left) and Megan Abbott top the summer reading list, with a dual in-store appearance at River Road Books this Thursday.
Don’t look now, but some buzzed-about authors walk among us — and sometimes they travel in packs, for appearances at libraries, stores and colleges. On Thursday, July 10, River Road Books hosts another in a “summer reading list” series of special in-store events, when the Fair Haven indie shop welcomes a pair of young novelists who have been getting noticed in all the right places.
An expert on (and in) the mean-streets genre of hardboiled/noir crime fiction, Megan Abbott is the Edgar award winning author of Dare Me (a “Heathers meets Fight Club” story that’s still being talked up as a movie vehicle for Natalie Portman) and The Fever — a just-published thriller of mysterious epidemics and small-town secrets that’s been branded one of the Best Books of Summer by the New York Times.
Joining Abbott for the 7 pm discussion and signing session will be a fellow practitioner of thriller fiction, Alison Gaylin — author of the new suspenser Stay With Me. The third novel in her Brenna Spector series (after And She Was and Into the Dark), it continues the twisted saga of a missing persons investigator who’s tortured by her perfect recall of all events in her adult life — while struggling to recapture lost childhood memories that could point to the fate of her vanished sister.
