redbankgreen reader Michael McMahon snapped this shot of the Army Corps of Engineers dredge Currituck working in our beautiful Navesink River near the Oceanic Bridge earlier this week.
A “hopper” dredge, the ship features a hull that opens along its length to scoop up spoils from the river bottom. It’s working to clear shoals in both the Navesink and Shrewsbury rivers, and depositing the spoils on the ocean side of Sandy Hook, according to a report by Dvids.net, which has more info about the vessel and the project.
