A jet-skier who triggered a search after he disappeared while traveling from Brooklyn to Highlands spent the night on buoy in the Atlantic Ocean before swimming ashore Wednesday, NJ.com reports.
The Coast Guard declined to identify the man, NJ.com reported. But Art Gallagher, publisher of More Monmouth Musings, identified him as Highlands resident Dylan Gowan, the 19-year-old son of a friend.
After his Jet Ski took on water and stopped working, the traveler swam to a buoy located about a mile and a half off the northern tip of Sandy Hook, where he spent the night, Coast Guard spokesman told NJ.com.
Gowan swam ashore, “where he was met with a Coast Guard crew from the Sandy Hook station and his family” shortly after 6 a.m., according to the report. He was taken to Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank.
Gowan reportedly posted on Facebook, “Haha im alive.”
