RUMSON-FAIR HAVEN SKIER WINS 2X GOLD

alex-perkins-1066934Press release from Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School

Alex Perkins, a senior at Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School, has once again claimed gold at the 2016 NASTAR Eastern Regional Championship, held in Okemo, Vermont on January 30 and 31.

The 18-year-old Fair Haven resident had the fastest finish among his age category of 18 to 20 year-old male skiers in Saturday’s championship race – which featured Olympian and World Cup Championship skier A.J. Kitt as pacesetter. Alex’s finish gave him the second fastest par time (20.17) of all skiers under the age of 21 who competed in the event.

This is the second consecutive first-place win for Alex, who also took gold at the 2015 event. This win qualifies Alex to move on and compete in the 2016 NASTAR National Championship. Alex’s first place finish on Saturday also qualified him for the NASTAR Race of Champions held on Sunday, January 31. All gold medal winners in all age categories competed, and Alex finished just shy of the podium in fourth place.

This is the seventh time in eight years that Alex has qualified for the NASTAR National Championship, which will be held this year at Steamboat Ski Resort in Steamboat Springs, Colorado in March 2016.

The son of Debbie and Bill Perkins plans to study Homeland Security at Brookdale Community College this coming fall.
