A backyard tree that fell on a one-story house at 14 Katherine Street in Fair Haven early Wednesday caused no injuries, but crushed the roof, causing extensive damage.
Homeowner Ruth Bassini, who police Detective Steve Schneider said was in her 80s, was home at the time of  the incident,  but that the uprooted tree’s limbs broke without penetrating her bedroom. Volunteer firefighters responded to the 12:52 a.m. call, and a borough building inspector was in the process of determining the extent of the damage, he said.
Neighbors said Bassini’s black and white cat was missing. (Photo by John T. Ward. Click to enlarge)
