SUMMARY:The Nightingale Sings: Ukrainian Artists in New Jersey Red Bank Exhibition Highlights Ukrainian Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will launch 2026 with an exhibition highlighting the work of three Ukrainian artists living in New Jersey. The show will open on Saturday\, January 10 and run through Tuesday\, February 3\, 2026. There will be an artists’ reception and panel discussion on January 10 from 6 to 8 pm. The show will feature art by Nathalie Halbout\, Elena Samarsky\, and Melanka Coppola.\nNathalie Halbout grew up in Kyiv\, the capital of Ukraine\, steeped in her country’s art\, architecture and poetry. Today in the US\, she creates delicate floral sculptures in porcelain and hand-felted fiber hangings colored with dyes from plants in her garden. Also trained as a nurse\, Halbout recently returned from Ukraine where she spent 5 months as a medical volunteer\, ministering to wounded soldiers. This work is financed by the sale of her art. She currently lives and works in Red Bank\, NJ.\nElena Samarsky came of age in Ukraine where she was exposed to Eastern European avant-garde art that continues to influence her abstract paintings. Working in acrylic\, she builds many layers of texture modified by dents\, bulges\, gouges\, and scratches\, seeking a balance between movement and stillness. Samarsky currently lives and works in West New York\, NJ.\nMelanka Coppola grew up in the US under the influence of four Ukrainian grandparents. She learned Ukrainian dance and cooking and developed an appreciation for vyshyvanka (Ukrainian embroidery) and other traditional art forms. These traditions inform her abstract\, acrylic paintings\, as evidenced by their strong graphic sense\, vibrant color selection\, and use of pattern. Coppola lives and works in Howell\, NJ.\nEileen Kennedy\, curator of the exhibition\, said\, “Each January\, the Art Alliance mounts an invitational exhibition designed to amplify the voice of an under-recognized artistic group.” She continued\, “As the war in Ukraine continues\, we wanted to shine a light on artists here in New Jersey who may be impacted.”\nThis exhibition is free and open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays\, from noon to 4 pm\, at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County\, 33 Monmouth Street\, Red Bank\, NJ 07701.\nFor more information about the exhibit\, visit our website www.artallianceofmonmouth.org or visit or call the gallery during operating hours\, (732) 842-9403. Founded in 1978\, the Art Alliance of Monmouth County is dedicated to promoting the advancement of the visual arts and providing exhibition\, studio\, and classroom space to local artists. New members are always welcome.\nMembership in the Art Alliance is open to visual artists at any skill level and to art lovers. Membership fee is $50 per year\, $25 for students with id. Benefits of membership include reduced entry fee for all exhibits ($10 per piece for up to 3 pieces for members; $15 per piece for non-members); affordable studio space; diverse classes and workshops; networking opportunities; the possibility of mounting an independent exhibit during the summer. In addition\, the Art Alliance maintains a website\, a bi-monthly newsletter\, and a Facebook page.

SUMMARY:FREE PIANO TRIO CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:Musical Transformations: Spark to Stillness\, Form to Passion \nThe Red Bank Chamber Music Society presents the Hermitage Piano Trio in a program that explores how music reshapes emotion—turning passion into reflection\, folklore into art\, and virtuosity into pure expression. \nIt begins with Mikhail Glinka’s Trio Pathétique\, where Italianate grace meets Russian ardor in a surge of youthful Romanticism. Elena Kats-Chernin’s Blue Silence turns inward—a haunting meditation on fragility and recovery\, its quiet pulsations suspended in still air. \nJosef Suk’s Piano Trio in C minor follows with radiant lyricism and optimism\, written when the composer was just seventeen. The Trio then ignites the rhythmic brilliance of Manuel de Falla’s Suite Populaire Espagnole\, transforming folk melodies into vivid miniature dramas. \nThe concert closes with Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 3—a tightly coiled masterpiece of intensity and poise\, where every note feels carved from emotion itself. \nWHERE: Trinity Episcopal Church Auditorium 50 White Street\, Red Bank\, NJ\nWHEN: Sunday\, November 16\, 2025\, at 4:30 PM (Doors open at 4:00 PM) \nABOUT THE HERMITAGE PIANO TRIO: Now entering its second decade\, the Hermitage Piano Trio has earned international acclaim for performances of “such power and sweeping passion that [they] leave you nearly out of breath” (The Washington Post). Violinist Misha Keylin\, cellist Sergey Antonov\, and pianist Ilya Kazantsev—each an award-winning soloist—combine precision and expressive depth in performances that have garnered multiple GRAMMY® nominations. \nThe Trio’s acclaimed recordings on Reference Recordings\, including Rachmaninoff and Spanish Impressions\, have been praised by Gramophone for “impeccably dovetailed phrasing and hair-trigger rhythmic unanimity.” Their next album\, Dvořák’s Circle\, will be released in early 2026. \nABOUT THE RED BANK CHAMBER MUSIC SOCIETY: The Red Bank Chamber Music Society is a non-profit organization presenting world-class chamber music concerts for the benefit of the community. SUMMARY:KATHLEEN PREZIOSI: CLATWORKS INSPIRED BY NATURE\, PATTERN\, AND RHYTHM
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will present the work of Kathleen Preziosi in their windows for the month of November.\nPreziosi works predominantly in clay\, however lately she has been exploring the use of mixed media within her work. Her sculptural pieces are inspired by nature\, pattern and rhythm\, such as intricate crustaceans in the ocean’s coral reef\, curves in garden squash\, and swirls of murmuring starlings in the sky. Using wheel thrown\, slab\, and extruded clay\, she constructs work that is a response to studying various environmental forms. Texture and patterns are a crucial aspect of her work; applying thick slip\, oxides and glazes to finish the surface.\nPreziosi is head of the Ceramics Studio at the Arts Council of Princeton where she teaches advanced ceramic classes and works from her studio in Stockton\, NJ on the Delaware River. She has exhibited work in New Jersey\, Virginia and North Carolina.\nIn the main gallery space Preziosi will jury work by members on the themes Figure It Out and Night and Day.\nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, November 1st\, from 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view until December 2nd\, Tuesday – Saturday\, 12-4 PM. Free of charge. Art Alliance of Monmouth County\, 33 Monmouth Street\, Red Bank\, NJ.\nFor more information about the exhibit\, visit our website www.artallianceofmonmouth.org\, or visit or call the gallery during operating hours\, (732) 842-9403. Benefits of membership include reduced entry fee for all exhibits ($10 per piece for up to 3 pieces for members) affordable studio space; diverse classes and workshops; networking opportunities; the possibility of mounting an independent exhibit during the summer. SUMMARY:HISTORY IN YOUR BACKYARD: PIONEERING BLACK GOLFER
DESCRIPTION:The Fortune Cultural Center Presents: History in Your Backyard \nJohn Shippen\, the first American Golf Pro was a Black Man \nRED BANK– While the Trump Administration goes about trying to white-wash American History at the Smithsonian National African American Museum\, to dilute the harsh reality of slavery.  The T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center in Red Bank is countering by keeping Black History and Culture at the forefront of the American story.  The popular “On A Sunday Afternoon” program will present the John Shippen Story\, on September 21\, at 1 pm. by Thurman and Ruby Simmons\, who established the John Shippen Foundation 30 years ago. \nJohn Shippen was the first Professional American Golfer\, who was Black and competed in the 1896 US Open PGA Tournament. His fascinating story from a 16-year-old caddie\, born to formerly enslaved parents\, to his association with the Shady Rest Country Club in Scotch Plains\, NJ\, one of the first Black country clubs in the country\, to compete in the US Open Golf Tournament\, was a feat. \n“History in Your Backyard\,” is an insightful and educational discovery of hidden figures in your backyard\, designed to connect Black History to all facets of the American narrative.  With education as the pathway forward for a better tomorrow\, the T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center looks to attract educators\, life-long learners and those of a curious nature to the reoccurring events. \nAgainst all odds\, Black culture continues to influence and prevail. “Even in times like these when the history of Black people is being removed from schools and public places to diminish our relevancy\, we’re not going anywhere\,” said T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center Executive Director\, Gilda Rogers. “Black people are the soul of this nation\, and we’ve seen it imitated time and again and served as American culture.” \nShippen\, like so many other Black hidden figures is very much a part of the American story meant to inspire the next generation to move forward with courage. Shippen opened the door for every Black golfer\, professional or otherwise\, who has a love of this sport and that should not be overlooked.  This is History in Your Backyard\, \nThe T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center is located at 94 Drs. James Parker Blvd.\, Red Bank. To reserve your seat contact: yvonne@tthomasfortunefoundation.org

SUMMARY:Red Bank Chamber Music Society presents the Catalyst Quartet in FREE Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Catalyst Quartet opens the Red Bank Chamber Music Society’s new season with Against All Odds\, a program that celebrates resilience and artistic brilliance in the face of adversity. From the elegance of Joseph Bologne\, Chevalier de Saint-Georges—an 18th-century virtuoso who rose to prominence despite racial barriers—to the luminous spirituality of Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz\, the quiet strength of Florence Price\, and the fusion of Persian and Western traditions in Aftab Darvishi’s Daughters of Sol\, each work affirms the enduring power of the human spirit. The program also features Jorge Amado Molina’s vivid Tríptico cubano and Toru Takemitsu’s haunting Autumn Leaves\, music born of both memory and transformation. \nThe concert culminates with Beethoven’s profound String Quartet No. 15 in A minor\, Op. 132\, written after his recovery from a near-fatal illness. Its central movement\, the “Holy Song of Thanksgiving\,” embodies both fragility and renewal\, offering a moving testament to resilience and hope. Taken together\, these works remind us that music not only survives against all odds—it transcends struggle to illuminate what is most deeply human.
