SUMMARY:SCULPTURE EXHIBIT
DESCRIPTION:Kenny Schuyler will show his steel sculptures in the windows of the Art Alliance for the month of September. Schuyler’s sculptures begin with found pieces that already suggest something human; a gesture\, a posture\, a personality. He collects and studies them\, then s fitting pieces together until the right combination reveals itself. Schuyler says it feels less like building an object and more like cracking a code. By the time steel reaches the scrapyard\, it already has a history\, character\, and story. He tries to see what is already there and bring that story forward. \nThe main gallery space will show work by members on the theme Imagine. An Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, September 19\, 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view from September 12th to September 26th \, Tuesday – Saturday\, 12-4 PM. SUMMARY:CHRISTIAN AVERY AT THE ART ALLIANCE
DESCRIPTION:Come check out the amazing artworks by Christian Avery in this laid-back\, in-person event. It’s a perfect chance to soak in some creativity\, meet fellow art lovers\, and dive into the vibrant world of Christian’s unique style. Whether you’re an art aficionado or just looking for something cool to do\, this exhibit is a must-see! Don’t miss out on experiencing the energy and passion firsthand. \nAn artist since childhood\, Christian has always known that creative expression was not a hobby\, but a necessity\, a language of survival\, reflection\, and truth. For him\, art is not a choice; it is breath. It is the thread that has stitched together every chapter of his remarkable journey. \nHe spent three formative years at the California College of the Arts in Berkeley\, refining his craft and deepening his understanding of visual storytelling. Yet his education extended far beyond the classroom. After serving in the United States Army\, Christian endured what he describes as a “dark decade”\, a period of profound challenge and reckoning. \nHis life shifted in a miraculous and unexpected way through the sacred Lakota sweat lodge ceremony. What began as healing became belonging. Through years of dedication\, humility\, and spiritual commitment\, Christian was not only embraced by the Lakota community but eventually entrusted with leading ceremony for others. In time\, he was appointed to the honored role of Chief\, a responsibility rooted in service\, guidance\, and cultural stewardship. \nToday\, Christian stands as a powerful and colorful presence\, an artist\, a spiritual leader\, and a man whose past trials have become the foundation of his wisdom. His work reflects transformation\, resilience\, and the sacred interplay between struggle and redemption. \nThe public is invited to the opening reception Saturday\, August14th\, at 5pm. Avery’s work can be viewed by appointment after opening night. The exhibition will close on September 2nd. \nExhibitions at the Art Alliance change monthly. Six exhibitions a year show work by members of the Art Alliance. Three exhibitions\, including the Annual Juried Exhibition\, are open to members and non-members. Every January\, the Art Alliance hosts an invitational show\, featuring work by notable area artists. During the summer months\, the programming is open to artists selected by the Art Alliance’s curators who undertake their own shows.\nFor more information\, visit the website at www.artallianceofmonmouth.org\, or visit or call the gallery during operating hours\, (732) 842-9403.\nFounded in 1978\, the Art Alliance of Monmouth County is dedicated to promoting the advancement of the visual arts and providing exhibition\, studio\, and classroom space to local artists. DESCRIPTION:Dorian La Padura will show paintings in the windows of the Art Alliance during the month of February. La Padura’s paintings are a balance of her observations of the world around her and her exploration of geometry\, color\, and light. Other works are pure abstraction. She attended art schools in New York City and had a career in illustration. She opened a mural company in Williamsburg Brooklyn in 1993. She enjoys creating site specific murals and color plans for architectural spaces. \nHer work is in many private collections as well as mural work in many architectural and retail spaces. \nIn the main gallery space LaPadura will jury work on the themes Nothing but Flowers and Rooms. \nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, February 7th from 6-8 PM. SUMMARY:The Nightingale Sings: Ukrainian Artists in New Jersey Red Bank Exhibition Highlights Ukrainian Artists
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will launch 2026 with an exhibition highlighting the work of three Ukrainian artists living in New Jersey. The show will open on Saturday\, January 10 and run through Tuesday\, February 3\, 2026. There will be an artists’ reception and panel discussion on January 10 from 6 to 8 pm. The show will feature art by Nathalie Halbout\, Elena Samarsky\, and Melanka Coppola.\nNathalie Halbout grew up in Kyiv\, the capital of Ukraine\, steeped in her country’s art\, architecture and poetry. Today in the US\, she creates delicate floral sculptures in porcelain and hand-felted fiber hangings colored with dyes from plants in her garden. Also trained as a nurse\, Halbout recently returned from Ukraine where she spent 5 months as a medical volunteer\, ministering to wounded soldiers. This work is financed by the sale of her art. She currently lives and works in Red Bank\, NJ.\nElena Samarsky came of age in Ukraine where she was exposed to Eastern European avant-garde art that continues to influence her abstract paintings. Working in acrylic\, she builds many layers of texture modified by dents\, bulges\, gouges\, and scratches\, seeking a balance between movement and stillness. Samarsky currently lives and works in West New York\, NJ.\nMelanka Coppola grew up in the US under the influence of four Ukrainian grandparents. She learned Ukrainian dance and cooking and developed an appreciation for vyshyvanka (Ukrainian embroidery) and other traditional art forms. These traditions inform her abstract\, acrylic paintings\, as evidenced by their strong graphic sense\, vibrant color selection\, and use of pattern. Coppola lives and works in Howell\, NJ.\nEileen Kennedy\, curator of the exhibition\, said\, “Each January\, the Art Alliance mounts an invitational exhibition designed to amplify the voice of an under-recognized artistic group.” She continued\, “As the war in Ukraine continues\, we wanted to shine a light on artists here in New Jersey who may be impacted.”\nThis exhibition is free and open to the public Tuesdays through Saturdays\, from noon to 4 pm\, at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County\, 33 Monmouth Street\, Red Bank\, NJ 07701.\nFor more information about the exhibit\, visit our website www.artallianceofmonmouth.org or visit or call the gallery during operating hours\, (732) 842-9403. SUMMARY:KATHLEEN PREZIOSI: CLATWORKS INSPIRED BY NATURE\, PATTERN\, AND RHYTHM
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will present the work of Kathleen Preziosi in their windows for the month of November.\nPreziosi works predominantly in clay\, however lately she has been exploring the use of mixed media within her work. Her sculptural pieces are inspired by nature\, pattern and rhythm\, such as intricate crustaceans in the ocean’s coral reef\, curves in garden squash\, and swirls of murmuring starlings in the sky. Using wheel thrown\, slab\, and extruded clay\, she constructs work that is a response to studying various environmental forms. Texture and patterns are a crucial aspect of her work; applying thick slip\, oxides and glazes to finish the surface.\nPreziosi is head of the Ceramics Studio at the Arts Council of Princeton where she teaches advanced ceramic classes and works from her studio in Stockton\, NJ on the Delaware River. She has exhibited work in New Jersey\, Virginia and North Carolina.\nIn the main gallery space Preziosi will jury work by members on the themes Figure It Out and Night and Day.\nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, November 1st\, from 6-8 PM. SUMMARY:DEE HOBAN: CREATIVING ART WITH BOOKS
DESCRIPTION:Artist Dee Hoban will exhibit her work in the windows of the Art Alliance for the Month of October. As a book lover Hoban gravitated to using books as her artistic medium. She calls books the “clay” that she uses to create her sculptures. Hoban started by folding pages in books to create sculptures\, her work has continued to become more complex. Hoban finds inspiration in dreams\, emotions\, and looking at books. SUMMARY:ART ALLIANCE SHOW OPENS
DESCRIPTION:Elena Samarsky: When Silence Becomes Color \nElena Samarsky will present her abstract paintings at the Art Alliance of Monmouth County from July 18th to August 5th. Samarsky’s paintings are full of motion and color. For Samarsky the essence of art is not the end product but the act of creating the artwork: the speed of the gestures\, the tensions between brush and canvas\, between hand and brush\, between paint and tool. Samarsky’s creation of the painting makes use of broken color\, uneven saturation\, crude application of the paint\, forceful removal of of base layers and scratching\, scraping\, and peeling of the surface.Of her work\, Samarsky paraphraases the art critic\, Harold Rosenberg\, at some point the canvas becomes the boundried arena\, depicting not a picture but events.\nComing of age in Ukraine Samarsky was exposed to Eastern European avant-garde art and iconography. However\, it was not before she moved to Vienna when she first started painting. It was a few years later in Oxford\, during her Ph.D.\, that she had her first exhibition. Samarsky lived in Vienna\, Berlin\, and London and submerged herself in European art and examined it through historical as well as intellectual lenses. And although she became fascinated with 19th Century and Impressionist art she was influenced by Abstract Expressionism. Finally\, moving to New York City\, and her exposure to the collections of abstract expressionism\, solidified her love of Abstract Expressionism.\nSamarsky has exhibited nationally and internationally\, participated in numerous Artist in Residency Programs\, and appeared in radio and podcasts. Her artwork has appeared in magazines and book covers.\nSamarsky’s exhibit will be open from July 18th to August 5th\, Wednesday to Sunday 12-7. The opening will be Saturday July 19th 5-7PM\, Artist Talk at 6PM.\nExhibitions at the Art Alliance change monthly. Six exhibitions a year show work by members of the Art Alliance. Three exhibitions\, including the Annual Juried Exhibition\, are open to members and non-members. Every January\, the Art Alliance hosts an invitational show\, featuring work by notable area artists. SUMMARY:Charles Compo at the Art Alliance
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will present the work of Charles Compo in their windows for the month of June. Compo is an internationally recognized composer\, multi-instrumentalist\, and painter whose work captures the intricacies of contemporary life. His paintings are characterized by surreal abstract imagery\, symbolic iconography and motifs of mysticism\, violence and the subconscious. His work takes a look inwards and unveils what may go unnoticed to some.\nCompo’s background in jazz and experimental music allow for a unique exploration in the visual medium of painting. Within the past five years Compo has pivoted\, putting down the saxophone and picking up the paint brush. His nascent love for the medium has given him space to reflect both inwards and outwards. His paintings focus on the passage of time\, social decay\, mortality and remembrance. His use of cryptic symbolism runs parallel to Vanitas and ponders questions of existence\, futurity and contemporary life that strives for higher ideals.\nCompo’s paintings have been awarded finalist in several juried exhibitions across the globe. His work has been prominently exhibited in multiple group exhibitions and Biennales internationally such as the London Biennale (2022 and 2024) and the Chianciano Biennale in Italy in 2024. Work by the artist is represented in museum and public collections worldwide\, including Museo d’Arte di Chianciano Terme\, The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum\, The Wausau Museum of Contemporary Art\, and The Yuko Nii Foundation’s Permanent Collection at the Williamsburg Art & Historical Center.\nCompo says\nMy art is an expression of my creative impulse\, a process of exploration and discovery that brings me into a deeper understanding of myself and the world around me. Through the act of arranging items and experimenting with brushstrokes and paint\, I enter a state of flow where thoughts and emotions emerge and find their place in the visual language of my work. For me\, the act of creating art is a form of meditation\, a way of engaging with the present moment and channeling my innermost thoughts and feelings. I am fascinated by the interplay of color\, form\, and composition\, and how these elements can be used to create a sense of depth\, movement\, and balance. Whether through the use of symbolism\, abstraction\, or figurative representation\, I hope to create art that invites viewers to engage with the mystery and beauty of the world around us.\nIn the main gallery space McCall will jury work by members on the theme Down the Shore. Hoofs and Heartbeats\, work by students from the Hackensack Meridian Autism Program\, will also be presented in the gallery.\nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, June 7th from 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view until June 24th\, Tuesday – Saturday\, 12-4 PM. Free of charge. SUMMARY:ART ALLIANCE: COFFEE SACK AND SHORE ART
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will present the work of Monica McCall in their windows for the month of May. McCall started painting on burlap coffee sacks in early 2000 as a means of making signs for her Coffee house. She fell in love with the texture and remembered Guaguin painted on burlap so she tried it with own work. She related that it is not easy to prep the coffee sacks for painting. The sacks need to be deconstructed and cleaned. No two are alike. They can be made of very course jute and loosely woven or smooth and tightly woven. They are rough and uneven with knots or holes. It’s a labor of love to prepare but she embraces the process. The subject matter is usually figurative combining imagined and real-life scenarios with sincere attempts to point from her heart. She said she thinks about Van Gogh a lot when Ishe paints. She sees his paintings as exuding joy and love for nature and humanity. She aspires to that. Van Gogh painted on burlap once but didn’t like the coarse texture and only painted his ‘Portrait of Gauguin’ on burlap. Probably as an homage. \nIn the main gallery space McCall will jury work by members on the theme Down the Shore. Hoofs and Heartbeats\, work by students from the Hackensack Meridian Autism Program\, will also be presented in the gallery. \nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, June 7th from 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view until April 2nd\, Tuesday – Saturday\, 12-4 PM. Free of charge. SUMMARY:BELL KOBLENTZ: GLOWING VISUAL ABSTRACTIONS
DESCRIPTION:The Art Alliance of Monmouth County will present the work of Belle Koblentz in their windows for the month of March. Koblentz’s abstract prints were originally photographs shot from nature but now have been transformed. Their original identities are buried in layers of pixel information. The ostensibly alchemetric process begins by digitally extruding the image\, manipulating colors\, and altering the image with tools and filters from Photoshop. What appears is an enigmatic image\, comprised of rectangular forms and a spectrum of color. These forms seemingly push off the flat surface creating uncanny\, preternatural environments. Information contained in the original photo is still there\, just manipulated\, layered\, and abstracted to the point that it is no longer recognizable. The pieces in this show were all completed in the last two years when her photographic work took a significant shift.\nLong before transitioning to digital art\, Koblentz was an acrylic painter concentrating on color theory following graduation from college. She graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Visual Art and an MA in Humanities with a degree in Aesthetics from the University of Texas at Dallas. In the early ’80’s she moved back to NJ and then to Monmouth County in 1990. Koblentz’s paintings were large geometric compositions with an effect of layers of transparencies through subtle changes in hues. With the advent of personal computers and digital cameras\, she was able to transfer her painter’s perspective and vocabulary of color and design to photography\, post-production techniques\, and ultimately\, digital art – where she has experimented with the images for over 15 years. \nIn the main gallery space Koblentz will jury work on the themes At Home and Cool and Hot. \nAn Artists’ Reception will be held Saturday\, March 1st from 6-8 PM. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view until April 2nd\, Tuesday – Saturday\, 12-4 PM. Free of charge. SUMMARY:RED BANK: CASTRONOVA GETS ART ALLIANCE WINDOWS
DESCRIPTION:During the month of March\, works by Joseph Castronova will be exhibited in the windows of the Art Alliance in Red Bank. \nCastronova explores the dynamics of a droplet of water in one of the window pieces. The public is invited to attend. The exhibition is on view\, free of charge\, through April 2. \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Follow Red Bank Green on Instagram\n @redbankgreen\n \n \n Follow
