Musical Transformations: Spark to Stillness, Form to Passion
The Red Bank Chamber Music Society presents the Hermitage Piano Trio in a program that explores how music reshapes emotion—turning passion into reflection, folklore into art, and virtuosity into pure expression.
It begins with Mikhail Glinka’s Trio Pathétique, where Italianate grace meets Russian ardor in a surge of youthful Romanticism. Elena Kats-Chernin’s Blue Silence turns inward—a haunting meditation on fragility and recovery, its quiet pulsations suspended in still air.
Josef Suk’s Piano Trio in C minor follows with radiant lyricism and optimism, written when the composer was just seventeen. The Trio then ignites the rhythmic brilliance of Manuel de Falla’s Suite Populaire Espagnole, transforming folk melodies into vivid miniature dramas.
The concert closes with Brahms’s Piano Trio No. 3—a tightly coiled masterpiece of intensity and poise, where every note feels carved from emotion itself.
WHERE: Trinity Episcopal Church Auditorium 50 White Street, Red Bank, NJ
WHEN: Sunday, November 16, 2025, at 4:30 PM (Doors open at 4:00 PM)
ABOUT THE HERMITAGE PIANO TRIO: Now entering its second decade, the Hermitage Piano Trio has earned international acclaim for performances of “such power and sweeping passion that [they] leave you nearly out of breath” (The Washington Post). Violinist Misha Keylin, cellist Sergey Antonov, and pianist Ilya Kazantsev—each an award-winning soloist—combine precision and expressive depth in performances that have garnered multiple GRAMMY® nominations.
The Trio’s acclaimed recordings on Reference Recordings, including Rachmaninoff and Spanish Impressions, have been praised by Gramophone for “impeccably dovetailed phrasing and hair-trigger rhythmic unanimity.” Their next album, Dvořák’s Circle, will be released in early 2026.
