RED BANK: BASIE STATUE DEDICATION

August 21, 2023, 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm

The Count Basie Center for the Arts dedicates a new sculpture honoring its namesake, the late, great William “Count” Basie, who was born and raised in Red Bank.

On the 119th anniversary of Basie’s birth, the Monmouth Street theater will dedicate a statue of the global jazz legend by sculptor Brian Hanlon in the William and Catherine Basie Arts Plaza.

Wayne Winborne, Executive Director of the Institute of Jazz Studies at Rutgers University-Newark, will offer historical perspective, and pianist Phil Bingham will perform Basie jazz pieces.

The public is invited, but attendees must RSVP at [email protected]. Refreshments will be served, including a commemorative birthday cake to conclude the ceremony.
