RED BANK: BEARING WITNESS TO A LYNCHING

June 18, 2022, 11:00 am

The United Methodist Church of Red Bank will host “Bearing Witness,” a tabletop display containing soil collected from the Eatontown site where Samuel “Mingo Jack” Johnson was lynched in 1886.

In partnership with the Equal Justice Initiative in Montgomery, Alabama, the New Jersey Social Justice Remembrance Coalition asks viewers to join in bearing witness to this personal and community tragedy, and to reflect on actions we can take today to end the ongoing legacy of racial violence and inequality.

The unveiling ceremony will take place June 18 at 11 a.m. A discussion of the project will follow the worship service on Sunday, June 5 at 11:15 a.m.
