RED BANK: YMCA HOSTS ‘WELCOMING WEEK’
September 11, 2023, 5:00 am to 9:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 5:00 am, repeating until September 15, 2023
In a time of rising violence against people of color and growing xenophobia across the country, the YMCA of Greater Monmouth County spotlights its commitment to fostering stronger, more equitable communities during its annual Welcoming Week, September 11 through 15.
Welcoming Week is part of a national YMCA movement to celebrate diversity, promote inclusion and build connections among people from various backgrounds with a special focus on newcomer immigrants.
During Welcoming Week, the Y’s doors will be wide open to local residents to swim and workout at no cost and to participate in a host of cultural activities, register to vote, and learn about immigration services, mental health resources and other programs and services for Spanish speakers.
All are welcome at the Red Bank Family YMCA and at Y locations in Leonardo, Freehold, Matawan and Old Bridge.
Community partners at Welcoming Week will include: the counties of Monmouth and Middlesex, Childcare Resources, Community Affairs & Resource Center, League of Women Voters, Literacy Volunteers, Lunch Break, Monmouth County Social Services, Middletown, Old Bridge and Red Bank public libraries, Visiting Nurse Association, Special Olympics, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, among others.
The Y will also highlight its commitment to justice, equity, diversity and inclusion, or JEDI, which has evolved over a period of three years.
