Residents of a proposed Washington Street historic district are being encouraged to attend a presentation tonight on what the designation would mean.
The district includes Washington, upper Spring Street, Mount Street and parts of Wallace and Mechanic streets. It is believed to be the oldest residential zone in Red Bank.
If approved by the borough council and state historic preservation officials, it would become the second historic district in Red Bank. The other is the commercial district anchored by Broad Street.
At the meeting, Historic Preservation Commission member George Bowden plans to discuss the background of the proposal to designate the zone, which would make the borough eligible for state funding to repair sidewalks and other infrastructure.
The results of extensive data-gathering on the homes in the district will also be presented, Bowden says, with information available for each address.
The meeting is scheduled for 6p in the borough council chambers at the municipal building, 90 Monmouth Street.
