AGENDA: BULKHEAD, GAY RIGHTS, ENERGY

marine-park-bulkhead-webThe bulkhead in the cove at Marine Park, seen earlier this month during the Jazz & Blues Festival, is included in the replacement project.

The agenda for tonight’s bimonthly meeting of the Red Bank mayor and council includes a presentation on the Marine Park bulkhead replacement project that, at last word, was scheduled to begin next month.

Also on the docket: a gay rights resolution; a bid to cut natural gas expenses; a bond increase; and a street renaming.
• The gay rights measure calls for “marriage equality for same-sex couples.” It also endorses measures backed by the U.S. Conference of Mayors regarding employment discrimination, hate crimes and other topics. Here’s the text: 09-173

• Last week, redbankgreen reported that a proposal to rename Locust Avenue in honor of the late borough mayor and state Supreme Court Associate Justice Daniel J. O’Hern was ceremonial. But it looks like we were wrong.  The agenda includes an ordinance stating that Locust Avenue “shall hereby be named Justice O’Hern Avenue.” Here’s the wording: 2009-23

• A proposed change to a bond ordinance would add $206,000 to the amount borrowed for repairs and upgrades to the seven water filtration tanks use by the borough water authority. By our math, that would increase the bond amount from $2.96 million to $3.17 million. The agenda gives no reason for the increase. Here’s the text: 2009-24

• The council will also take up a proposal that the borough join with other towns in the New Jersey Sustainable Energy Joint Meeting in the bulk purchase of natural gas, electricity “and other forms of energy.” Here’s the doc: 09-174
