Just to clarify things, it’s not the redbankgreen Home Tour — it’s the Red Bank Green Home Tour, as in a tour of environmentally forward-thinking dwellings located within the borough of Red Bank.
So while your favorite hyperlocal news source hasn’t gotten into the business of conducting open-house showcases, we can definitely get behind the notion of local homeowners who are rethinking the concept of life in the suburbs. And this Saturday, a select group of people in our community will be opening up their houses, yards and gardens to neighbors who’d like to see how ideas like composting, rain collection and solar power are working in a real-life setting.
Between noon and 4 pm, the Red Bank Environmental Commission will host an opportunity to visit eight borough homes, and to meet and talk with residents who’ve successfully integrated “green” initiatives into their everyday lives.
It extends not just to solar panels, compost bins and rainwater barrels, but to beehives, pollinators, electric vehicles and more — including the “everything old is new again” practice of front-yard farming.
You don’t have to be a Red Bank resident yourself to take advantage of this free excursion — and, as the RBEC emphasizes, “friends, family and pets” are welcome to come along as well. An RSVP is recommended; call (732)533-3951 or email [email protected] to sign up.
