redbankgreen Tuesday celebrates its 20th anniversary with a community gathering near a spot that was known as the original Red Bank “green” more than 120 years ago.
The event begins at 5:30 pm – there will be audience-participation trivia, “Where Have I Seen This?” live, a performance by the band Kül d’Sack. See the official Evite here for full info.
A number of local eateries are offering specials for folks to take food out and join us picnic-style on the lawn at Marine Park. (See below)

It’s free, and everyone is invited.
And, as it turns out, it’s taking place near a spot that was the physical, real-life version of what redbankgreen was founded to become: a place where folks gather to talk, chat, hear each other’s stories, do business and build community.
For several decades beginning in the 1890’s, The Red Bank Register referred to an area along the Navesink River near Wharf Avenue as “the green” where farmers would bring vegetables to market.
“There congregate at that place many representative husbandmen from all parts of the county who sell their produce to hucksters” the paper reported in a story about the “green.” It was the place to go to hear what’s what and who’s who. Just like redbankgreen today.
And so, to all you hucksters, husbandmen, and all our 21st-century neighbors, we hope to see you there, on the Red Bank green.
