LINCROFT: RUGBY CLUB TO HOST OLYMPIC DAY

On Saturday, June 18th, the Monmouth Rugby Football Club will host the 2016 Monmouth 7s Showdown at the Shore IV Tournament at their home-turf field of Thompson Park in Lincroft.

Now in its fourth year, Monmouth 7s is one of the biggest showcases for Rugby in New Jersey, drawing participation from throughout the Northeast. This 2016 edition has the added excitement this year of the return of Rugby to the 2016 Summer Games in Rio.

Additionally, the Tournament will host local Olympic Day festivities which promote Team USA in advance of the 2016 Rio Summer Games. The event includes Olympic themed activities, fun for kids, an opportunity to meet former and future Olympians and more!

Monmouth Rugby’s Olympic Day is part of 1,816 events to be hosted in 1,297 U.S.communities, representing every state. Olympic Day, officially celebrated June 23, has been recognized each year since 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games on  June 23, 1894. An International Olympic Committee initiative, Olympic Day’s mission is to promote fitness, wellbeing, culture and education, while promoting the Olympic values (excellence, friendship and respect) as well as the three Olympic Day Pillars (move, learn and discover) in every corner of the globe.

Some 720 participants, representing 60 teams, are expected to meet on the Tournament’s four fields of play. Registration for adult men and women players is $350 per person (or $300 before June 1); registration for high school age players is $250 per person (or $200 before June 1). All Olympic Day events and Monmouth 7s matches are FREE to attend for spectators!  Tournament proceeds support the Monmouth Rugby Football Club, which include practice and playing fields, equipment, and travel for our Men, Women, and Youth programs.
