“A Window’s View” by Louis Rissland of Shrewsbury (above) and “Counting Humans” by Ed Deverell of Little Silver (below) took prizes in the ‘Eyesights’ group photography show that continues through Saturday at the Guild of Creative Art.
With receptions and special events tonight, Saturday afternoon and Sunday evening, it’s a busy weekend for art lovers on and around the Greater Red Bank Green — one that begins with a reminder about Eyesights 2017, the annual juried group show that spotlights some of the area’s finest photographic talents at Shrewsbury’s Guild of Creative Art.
Judged by Red Bank-based commercial photographers and gallery curators Robert McKay and Elisabeth Koch-McKay, the show remains on display through Saturday. It’s a final chance to check out winning entries by some talented neighbors who hail from Little Silver, Middletown, Shrewsbury and other nearby communities — prior to next Friday’s opening of an exhibit collecting the Best in Visual Arts entries from the recent teenARTS Festival at Brookdale Community College.

A reminder also that tonight, March 24 marks the official reception for Quon + Quon, a “Two Generations of Art” display (on the walls and walkways of Red Bank’s Oyster Point Hotel) — that pairs the work of Fair Haven-based painter and illustrator Mike Quon, with that of his 103-year old father Milton Quon. Mike is set to be in attendance (and Milton, the onetime Disney animator who resides in Los Angeles, is expected to make a live appearance via video) during the 7 to 9 p.m. event.

Over at Detour Gallery, the recently opened 10,000-square-foot facility that’s quickly become the Greater Red Bank Green’s most buzzworthy new artspace, a two-man exhibit highlighting the sketches and sculptures of thirtysomething artists Martin Schapira and Zevi G continues through April 22 — while this Sunday, March 26 sees the gallery at 24 Clay Street hosting a special Wine and Inspiration event. Between the hours of 5 to 7 p.m., a selection of fine wines will be poured, hors d’oeuvres of the season will be served, and a collection of world class contemporary art will be on display.

The Detour event is a fundraiser for the arts and education programs of the Monmouth Museum, where the group show Pulped Under Pressure continues on display through May 7 in the Main Gallery of the facility on the Lincroft campus of Brookdale Community College. Tickets for Sunday’s benefit event are $100 per person and can be purchased on the Museum’s website — while the “Pulped” exhibit can be viewed during regular museum hours (Tuesday-Thursday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Friday 10 a.m. – 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.; Sunday 12-5 p.m.). Regular admission is $8 per person; free with valid student or staff ID from BCC.
Saturday the 25th also happens to be the date of a special Modern Dance Workshop and Performance, choreographed to (and inspired by) the Pulped Under Pressure exhibit of paper-based artistry. The Brookdale Community College Dance Club sponsors the free-admission event featuring the Jill Molinaro Dance Company, and hosted inside the Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre at 7 p.m. (a reception for the dance event precedes the performance at 6 p.m. inside the Museum).
