A high-speed crash sent a parked SUV flying  from its spot in a driveway up onto a home’s porch Tuesday night, leaving both vehicles upside-down on an East Bergen Place lawn.

Witnesses said the bloodied motorist who caused the crash took off on foot, with neighbors giving chase, before he collapsed a block west at the corner of Hudson Avenue, where he was arrested by Red Bank police.

According to neighbors, the accident happened at about 10:30p when the driver of a silver Audi sedan, heading east on East Bergen, failed to negotiate the bend in the road at South Street and drove up onto a homeown’s lawn, smashing into the SUV parked at 71 East Bergen.

Neighbors said they heard the driver of another vehicle that had also been heading east tell police that the Audi had just passed him on the right at high speed.

The force of the impact threw one or both vehicles up on the porch at 71, causing extensive property damage.

Each car came to rest on its roof on the lawn.

Information about the driver and possible charges was not immediately available.

Neighbors said that stretch of East Bergen is a frequent scene of speeding and accidents.

“We’ve had four cars hit in front of our house in the past year,” said Dan Mancuso, the borough planning board chairman, who lives three doors west of the accident scene.
