PUMPKIN SMASHING DEER CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Apparently deer celebrate Mischief Night a day or two earlier than humans.

Some evidence of this phenomenon was revealed Tuesday when a resident of the Tilton Avenue neighborhood took to a local Facebook group to lament having their front porch pumpkin smashed the previous night.

Besides the inevitable lamentations on the downfall of societal mores (which seem to ignore the fact that a few generations ago you wouldn’t even consider leaving a pumpkin on a porch overnight the week before Halloween), there was a more eye popping response as well. It was posted by another neighbor a block away who reviewed his doorbell camera footage and unmasked a neighborhood n’er do well that had cracked his pumpkin the same night: a male white tailed deer.

“We caught the pumpkin bandit on camera!” Bank Street homeowner Mark Gregory posted along with a photo of the offending six point Odocoileus Virginianus with a cracked open pumpkin at his hooves.

White tailed deer are known to eat pumpkins. And the initial poster replied that she initially suspected a deer as the culprit for her smashed pumpkin as well, but saw no evidence that it had been eaten. This led lead her to think it was indeed some young bucks of the human variety who had somehow pulled themselves away from Tik Tok and Instagram for a night.
