RED BANK: WOMEN’S DAY MARCHERS DECRY TRUMP/MUSK

Hundreds of people amassed at the Red Bank train station and marched through downtown in protest of a long list of moves by the Trump administration they decried as harmful to women, families and democracy itself Saturday.

As one of the many signs carried by marchers put it: “No sign is big enough to list all the reasons why I’m here.”

The rollback of abortion rights, cuts to federal agencies by Elon Musk’s office of government efficiency, planned immigration crackdowns and the long list of Trump executive orders issued since Inauguration Day all came under fire.

“The British lost the war in 1776,” Newark Mayor and New Jersey Democratic candidate for governor Ras Baraka said to perhaps the loudest cheers of the day.  “We don’t have a king.”

The march began with a rally at the train station and wound down Monmouth, Broad and West Front Streets before ending with more speakers and music at Riverside Gardens Park.

“I know I needed this,” Red Bank Borough Council member Kristina Bonatakis told the crowd at Riverside Gardens. “How about you?”

The march was called to mark International Women’s Day and was organized by a coalition of more than a dozen different organizations. More than 300 protests were planned around the country to mark the day.

A list of speakers also included Deputy Mayor Kate Triggiano, Borough Council Members Laura Jannone and Julie Flores-Castillo a local immigrant rights advocate and Democratic county committee member.
