WITH 28 STRAIGHT WINS, RED BANK’S 9U FOOTBALL TEAM SEEKS TITLE

By BRIAN DONOHUE

Over the last three seasons, their record is 28-0.

They’ve won the Shore Conference, NJ State title, and last week beat a team from New York for the sectional title.

On Saturday, the nine-and-under (9U) Red Bank American Youth Football team will play against a team from Maryland at Toms River East for the Regional title and a chance to play for national glory next month at the AYF national tournament in Florida.

Here’s more from a press release sent out by Red Bank AYF after their latest win last Sunday:

“Under the bright lights of Don Bosco Prep this past Sunday, the Red Bank 9U AYF Bucs delivered a statement win, a commanding 31–6 victory over the New York Champions Spring Valley Hornets, to earn their spot in the Northeast Regional Championship. With the win, the
Bucs are now just one game away from the ultimate youth football stage: Naples, Florida, and a berth in the prestigious National AYF Tournament.”

The Bucs now prepare to face a team from Maryland for the Big East Regional Championship—a matchup loaded with talent, intensity, and everything great about youth football.

What makes this team special isn’t just the wins; it’s the families, volunteers, coaches, and community that have rallied behind these young athletes. From early-morning practices to late-night drives, the commitment has been constant. And now, the entire Red Bank community stands just one step away from watching their boys compete among the nation’s best.”

Red Bank AYF/AYC President Allen Soden called 9U team, “a very special group of boys.”

“Most of these athletes came together under the direction of Head Coach Rob Moccio in the 2023 season playing 7U tackle football,” he said in an emailed statement.  ” 7U is the first year of tackle football in the Shore Conference so they were really taught the discipline and fundamentals of football from day one.  Since then, they have gone on to win 28 games in a row, spreading over three football seasons.     This team is making history for the Red Bank American Youth Football and Cheer Association.  A team from Red Bank has never won the NJAYF Shore Conference championship.”

Saturday’s kickoff is at 10:45 at Toms River East High School.  Bucs coaches say the theme for fans is “white out.’ “We are encouraging everyone to come and support them and wear white!”
