Here’s the answer to last week’s “Where.”

Through a quirk of civil engineering (or perhaps a total lack of civil engineering) the sidewalk ends at 210 Branch in Red Bank. That’s smack at the gate guarding the steps leading to 214 Branch Avenue in Little Silver.
Unlike the classic book of children’s poetry “Where the Sidewalk Ends,” we do not believe it’s a place where a boy might turn into a TV set or a girl might eat a whale. Could be, though. We don’t ask too many questions about what goes on in Little Silver.
Four people guessed that the photo was taken on Tower Hill, which is a good guess because it’s another sloped location marked by a landscape of sometimes haphazard-looking late 19th- to early 20th-century infrastructure. Two other tries came from someone who guessed it was Conover Lane across Cooper’s Bridge in Middletown.
That would have been a huge no-no, as one “Where’ regular reminded us.
Chuck Stern wrote in, telling us that if we took one more step, we’d be breaking the “Where” rules, which require all photos to be taken within the municipal borders of Red Bank.
“Since it appears that you took the photo from the Red Bank side, and the gate appears to be right on the border, I think you are within the rules,” Stern wrote.
Seems like we were quite literally toeing the line with this one! Whew.
Thanks to those who wrote in.
