RED BANK: YOGA FESTIVAL BREAKS IN MARINE PARK LAWN

By BRIAN DONOHUE

If you’re one of those folks wondering why the Borough of Red Bank moved the parking lot from the waterfront to the southwestern, landward side of the Marine Park as part of its recent makeover, maybe these pictures will help it make sense.

The first annual Jersey Shore Yoga Festival brought hundreds of yogis to the new lawn Sunday. It would’ve been tough to pull off in the old parking lot.

The yoga festival is one of the first  events to be held on the newly created space designed specifically to accommodate happenings like this. It featured 15 local yoga instructors leading participants in 108 sun salutations under cloudy sunless skies.  The event was rounded out with an opening meditation and a closing sound bowl and kirtan experience.

A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales went to 180 Turning Lives Around, a local nonprofit that empowers survivors and families affected by domestic violence and sexual assault.
