Last month, the Hollywood muckrakers over at TMZ.com asked a question about Ian Ziering, famously known for playing Steve Sanders on Beverly Hills, 90210. The website posted photos of the actor from 1992 and 2010, noting he hasn’t aged much, and asked: good genes or good docs?

How about good skin care?

redbankgreen bumped into the acting star Tuesday afternoon, in all places, at a Fair Haven coffee shop. And as he sipped on a cup of coffee at Gourmet Picnic, he was not an ounce reluctant to talk about why he was in town: to show off a new venture of his, an anti-aging line of products at Jon Lori Salon on River Road.

Now, Ziering is a man known for anti-aging. When he was in his twenties, he was playing a rich kid at West Beverly High School, often finding himself in the middle of hairy situations, like the time a couple of girls stole his signature black Corvette. At 46, Ziering looks, well, not anywhere near 46.

These days, although he’s still acting, he’s spending a lot of time traveling around the country showcasing the products, a series of gels that he says target the free radicals that cause aging in the skin. He’s also recruiting partners, including Laura Pietromonaco of Little Silver, who invited Ziering to demo the products to a small crowd at the salon Tuesday.

“For me, talk is cheap. Proof is priceless,” said Ziering, who grew up in West Orange. “I am not a paid spokesman. This is how I can share my success. I’m using the celebrity I’ve been fortunate to attain to help others.”

Pietromonaco says Ziering’s line is legit. She’s used it for two months and said she’s already seen an appreciable difference in her skin complexion.

Besides heralding the product as “revolutionary,” Ziering, who now lives in California, had a chance to soak in this neck of New Jersey, which he admitted he wasn’t familiar with.

“Red Bank is beautiful. I’ve never been down this way. I really like it here,” he said.

Then, one of the most common questions for visitors when they get to Monmouth County: “Where’s the Stone Pony?”
