Sea Bright’s rumor mill seems to be in full churn right before elections.
Addressing gossip that is “greatly exaggerated,” Councilman Read Murphy said Councilwoman Peggy Bills is, in fact, still running for re-election this year.
Bills, who was not at Tuesday night’s council meeting because of a family emergency and has not been able to be reached by redbankgreen, told Murphy word has gotten around town that she dropped out of the race.
“She’s running, and she’s running hard,” Murphy said.
Bills is on the ballot with fellow Republican Brian Kelly to retain their seats on the council against Democrat challengers Marc Leckstein and Meg Fisher.
Murphy doesn’t know where the misinformation is coming from, but it’s out there and quickly floating through the borough.
“I just want to quell any rumors in this town that’s running rampant with rumors,” he said.
Polls are open from 6a to 8p November 2.
In other council news:
- Mayor Maria Fernandes is still recovering from a mild stroke she suffered last month. Council President William Keeler said she plans on returning home from a rehabilitation facility at the end of the week.
- Beach badges are on sale for half-price for the 2011 season, at $50.
- A speed hump is set to be installed on Church Street.
- Next council meeting is at 7:30p, Monday, November 15.
