When Brian Kelly was running for re-election to the Sea Bright council last year, his major aim was to make progress on big plans to develop Sea Bright’s beachfront.
After Kelly was sworn in to his seat on the council Saturday, he said the council is going to make good on that promise in 2011.
“The biggest thing this year will be our vow to complete the phase one priority, which is a beachfront facility,” the Republican said.
Councilman Read Murphy said he anticipates construction at the borough’s municipal lot to be complete by the end of the year. The first phase will include a new beach pavilion, bathrooms and a cell phone tower. Architectural plans are headed the Department of Environmental Protection’s way for approvals, he said.
The end goal is to have a completely revamped beachfront, Murphy said, with a public pool and restaurant that would generate upwards of $2 million a year, he estimates.
“We are on our way to a waterfront complex that should generate substantial, substantial revenue to this town,” Murphy said.
He’s targeting summer 2012 to have the complex 100-percent operational. Pending state permits, that shouldn’t be a problem, Murphy said.
“We’re going ahead, we’re working hard and we’re getting along,” he said. “And these are the three most important things in local government.”
