MANHUNT UPDATE

Hot_topic

The Asbury Park Press has some details on the police search for a burglary suspect redbankgreen reported on yesterday.

The newspaper says that the subject of the search, which involved a helicopter and police dogs, was a 26-year-old man wanted in Ocean County on outstanding warrants and who fled from Middletown police Wednesday.

From the report:

Frank Landi, 26, whose last known address in Brick, but who previously lived in Middletown, is wanted by the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office on charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon and drug possession.

Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sgt. William Colangelo spotted a speeding car on Route 35 North, near the border with Red Bank, said Detective Lt. Joseph Capriotti.

When he tried to stop the vehicle, the driver turned suddenly into the jughandle at Navesink River Road, then eventually stopped momentarily, police said.

As the sergeant checked the license plate of the car – which was registered to Landi’s mother — the driver sped away, pulled into a Catherine Street driveway, then fled on foot, police said.

Police chased him and a K-9 unit from Holmdel was brought in, but the dog eventually lost the scent, said Capriotti.

Around 1 p.m. Wednesday, a Catherine Street resident called police to say she spotted a man in a backyard there.

Sgt. Richard Deickmann spotted Landi at Route 35 and Navesink River Road, but when the officer approached him, he ran away, said Capriotti. That led to another foot chase.

Police later called in a search helicopter and K-9 dogs from Long Branch.

They’re still looking for Landi. Anyone with information to offer is asked to call the Middletown detective bureau at 732.615,2100.
