BOROUGH, SCHOOL BUDGET Q&As SLATED

money-half-columnRed Bank property owners with a yen to understand what’s going into this year’s tax bills will get two chances to ask in person this week — assuming they can be in two places at once.

Both the borough finance committee and the administration of the borough school district are slated to detail the contents of their respective spending packages for the coming year on Thursday night.

• The borough event, scheduled for 7:30p at the Senior Citizen’s Center on Shrewsbury Avenue, is an annual event begun under finance committee chair Councilman Mike DuPont in 2007, and is usually one of the bigger attractions on Red Bank’s civic calendar.

At the session, administrators and department heads customarily walk through their spending requests before the session is opened up to the public for questions and comments.

A formal public hearing on the proposed budget is scheduled to be held in the council chambers at borough hall on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at 6:30p.

We’d post the proposed budget, but it’s too large to upload here. You can get it at the borough website here.

• Also on Thursday night, the Greater Red Bank Branch of the NAACP will host a Red Bank School Board Budget Presentation & Candidates’ Night,” featuring a spending plan walk-through by Superintendent Laura Morana at 6:30p.

A “user friendly” version of the budget is here. More detail is available via the board of ed website.

Morana’s discussion will be followed at 7p by a forum to introduce the candidates for school board seats in the April 27 election. They are:

The event will be held at St. Paul Baptist Church, 196 River Street and is scheduled to conclude by 9p.

One incumbent, Ms. Suzanne Viscomi, for an unexpired two-year term

Three incumbents for three-year terms: Ernest Anemone, Janet Jones and Peter Noble

Board Candidate: Allen Palma.

In addition, Kim Summey of Red Bank has expressed an interest in running as a write-in candidate and she will participate with the other candidates at the forum.
