R-FH, RBR IMPROVE IN STATEWIDE RANKING

Rb_bullentinboard

Of 316 public high schools in New Jersey, Rumson-Fair Haven ranks 30th in overall quality and Red Bank Regional is 64th, according to a Monmouth University analysis reported in this month’s issue of New Jersey Monthly magazine.

R-FH moved up three spots, from 33rd, since the magazine’s last ranking in 2006. RBR was ranked 89th at that time. Among Monmouth County schools, only Holmdel High ranked higher than R-FH, at 11th, up from 19th in the 2006 chart.

To determine the rankings, state data was compiled and analyzed by the Monmouth University Polling Institute; the methodology included such factors as class size, student scores and the rates at which students went onto college.

In a press release, RBR officials said the Little Silver school

has significantly increased its Advanced Placement course selection and student achievement, with a steady climb in students scoring a 3 or better (the score at which most colleges grant students college credits). This reflects more rigor in the pre-AP classes as well as some classes beginning AP study during the summer months. Graduating students continue to increase their preference to attend four year colleges over two.

“This honor is even more significant since both Holmdel and RFH are wealthier, more homogenous communities as the state ranks them by district factor group, while RBR reflects all levels of income and maintains a very diverse school population,” RBR Superintendent Ed Westervelt said in the statement. “This is one more indicator that the innovative programs, dedication and hard work of our staff and administration are bearing real fruit.”
