For info on submitting items for consideration, see below.

TONIGHT: RBR Hosts art auction

The third annual charity art auction entitled “Art for Heart Sake” will take place at Red Bank Regional High School from 6:30 to 8:30p. Proceeds will benefit the AmandaÂ’s Easel Art Therapy Program, which aids children dealing with abuse and bereavement.

The event features original paintings, drawings, jewelry, silkscreen and photography created by Visual and Performing Arts Academy students as well as exceptional by students in art elective classes. Professional auctioneer Peter Costanzo of Neptune will conduct the auction.

There will also be an art raffle. Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults. Refreshments will be provided by area businesses supporting the event.

Last year’s event was a big success with over 50 pieces of art sold at prices varying from $35 to over $400. Every item was sold and more than $2,500 was raised for AmandaÂ’s Easel, an art therapy program sponsored by 180 Turning Lives Around. Formerly known as the WomenÂ’s Shelter of Monmouth County, 180 is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to ending domestic violence, family violence, abuse and sexual assault.

For more info about the NAHS Art for Heart Sake Auction, contact Claudia OÂ’Connor at [email protected]; 732-842-8000 ext. 1468.

SUNDAY, MARCH 2: Juried community art show

Proceeds will benefit the Y’s scholarship fund and allow families to participate in YArts programs.

Held at the Community YMCA’s Children’s Cultural Center, 51 Monmouth St., the event begins at 1p. For entry details, visit www.cymca.org or call (732) 842-7177.

FRIDAY, MARCH 7: AIDS Benefit at RBR

Red Bank Regional‘s C.A.R.E.S. (Compassion, Awareness, Respect, Education, and Support) club sponsors its 6th Annual AIDS Benefit at the high school Commons beginning at 6:30p.

The evening will feature the diverse talents of RBR student vocalists, dancers, actors and spoken-word artists. The purpose of the event is to promote HIV/AIDS awareness and the impact upon our youth of this disease without a cure. According to the US Centers for Disease Control, the number of new cases of HIV infection among 15-19 year olds in the U.S has risen.

The event is directed by two junior vocal majors of the RBR Visual and Performing Arts Academy and Produced by Stacy Liss, The CARES Club Advisor. Student artwork and dim lighting will set the mood for what promises to be a great evening of entertainment.

Admission is $5 for students and senior citizens and $7 for adults. Proceeds will benefit Broadway CARES/Equity Fights AIDS and The Center of Asbury Park, two organizations which exist to support those living with HIV and AIDS.

C.A.R.E.S. was founded over a decade ago by a grieving RBR student who sought to bring some meaning to the death of a family member from the AIDS virus. C.A.R.E.S. educates and promotes awareness among the RBR student body by conducting a lunchtime speaking series featuring speakers involved with the treatment and prevention of HIV as well as people living with the disease offering first hand accounts of their experiences.
