Supporters of David Goldman‘s quest to repatriate his 9-year-old son from Brazil are planning a vigil in Red Bank’s Riverside Gardens Park Tuesday evening.
The one-hour event is one of four scheduled — the others being in New York, Chicago and Washington — to mark the fifth anniversary of what Goldman backers refer to as Sean Goldman’s “abduction” by his now-dead mother.
In an email, organizers affiliated with the Bring Sean Home website say the vigil is “to commemorate the day and draw attention not only to the Sean Goldman case, but to all of the other cases of international parental child abduction worldwide.”

Attendees are asked to bring their own candles and matches to the one-hour event.
Sean was taken by his mother, Bruna, from their Tinton Falls home on vacation to her native Brazil in 2004, but she and the boy never returned. She divorced her husband and remarried, and last year died shortly after giving birth to her second child.
Last week, Brazil’s Supreme Court rejected one challenge to a lower court ruling that the boy and his natural son should be reunited. But an earlier challenge, filed by the family of JoĂŁo Paulo Lins e Silva, Bruna’s second husband, remains unresolved in court.
